Ellen Mae Hoaglund was born on February 4, 1943 in Wheaton, MN to Ann (Carpenter) and Clifford Hoaglund. She was baptized at Parnell Lutheran Church in Wheaton, and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Carlos. Ellen graduated from Jefferson High School.
Ellen married George Clark Niblett in September of 1960. The couple made their home in Belle River, MN. To that union came a blessing of 5 children; 1 infant who passed at birth and 4 sons, Brian, Ed, Greg and Ted. Ellen and George made their home for many years in Belle River and Alexandria. They lived in Texas then they had a home in Wheaton before George’s passing. The last years Ellen spent in Barrett, Elbow Lake and Wheaton where she was able to spend time with grandchildren and great grandchildren there and back in Alexandria. She grew some very special friendships while in Wheaton.
Ellen wore many hats over the years; in addition to being the oldest sibling who cared for 5 of her siblings after their mother passed away in 1965, she was the mother of 4 boys. Her proudest outside of the home vocation was after she went back to school in her late 40’s. Ellen went to school at the Detroit Lakes Technical College and Central Lakes College in Brainerd and became a Registered Nurse. What a thrilling achievement! She was able to work as an RN for nearly 20 years, on the floor for 10 of them.
Ellen loved her family. She was joy-filled when she was with her boys and their families, siblings, cousins and beyond. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and her great grandchildren. She was happy when she got to spend time with her brother and sisters over the years and Ellen made a point to stay in touch with her cousins, cherishing family connections in addition to her many friendships.
Painting was another of the many ways Ellen improved the world around her. A talented painter, she found great joy in either painting something as a gift or by spending the time to help you learn how to paint something yourself.
Ellen was preceded in death by her husband George Niblett, their infant child, her mother Ann Hoaglund and father Clifford Hoaglund, sister Lynnette Hoaglund, brother Jerome (Jerry) Hoaglund, son Brian Niblett, son Edward (Eddy) Niblett and brother-in-law Richard Schuneman. She is survived by her sisters, Gloria (Richard) Schuneman, Dianne (Jack) Fletcher, Connie (Alan) Harper and Arlene (Rodney) Lorenz, sister-in-law Sharon (Jerry) Hoaglund, sons Greg (Kathy) Niblett, Ted (Deanne Mortenson) Niblett, daughters in law, Lisa (Brian) Niblett and Jodi (Eddy) Niblett, grandchildren Steve (Michaela) Niblett, Whitney (Eddie Garcia) Niblett-Garcia, Lauren (Josh) Eide, Olivia Niblett, Stanley Niblett, 10 great-grandchildren and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
