Elroy Winston Wibstad was born on May 31, 1932, in Brandon, MN to Simon and Nora (Gilbertson) Wibstad. He attended school in Brandon and helped his father on the farm. Elroy served three years in the U.S. Army and served in the Korean War.
Elroy did mechanical work for Ray Strom. He and another partner owned and operated tow trucks. In the early 1970’s, Elroy worked for Pro Ag delivering feed until he retired in 1995. After retirement, he helped drive tractor for his son-in-law, Kevin Eddy, until he was 79.
Elroy was a lifetime member of the Brandon American Legion and the Alexandria VFW. He enjoyed fishing in the winter, deer hunting up north, and taking care of his place. Most important was his family, whom he loved.
Elroy died on Tuesday, July 31, 2018, at St. Williams Living Center at the age of 86. He is survived by his sons, Michael (ReNae) Wibstad of Annandale, Keith Wibstad of Maple Lake, Brian Wibstad of Alexandria, and Tim (Karen) Wibstad of Brandon; and daughter, Janell Eddy of Garfield; nine grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; sister, Norma Scherrer of Alexandria; sister-in-law Joyce Wibstad of Alexandria and many nieces and nephews. Elroy is preceded in death by his parents, Simon and Nora; brothers, Ray and Gordon Wibstad; sisters, Eleanor Burgess, Irene Anderson, Helen Fearing, daughter, Lynnette Wibstad, grandson, Chad Eddy; and son-in-law, Kevin Eddy.
A Funeral Service will be held 1:00 PM on Monday, August 6, 2018, at the Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service on Monday at the Anderson Funeral Home. Military Honors were provided by the Alexandria Veterans Memorial Unit, Brandon American Legion, and the Minnesota National Honor Guard.
