ELSIE HIEBEL

Elsie Mae Prchal was born July 7, 1927 in Lake Mary Township, the daughter of Anton and Caroline (Vacek) Prchal. She was raised in Lake Mary Township where she attended country school District 19. At age 16 she moved to Alexandria, MN where she completed high school. Elsie worked at Blake's By The Lake and also at JC Penney.

On June 3, 1946 Elsie was united in marriage to Stephan Hiebel. Elsie and Steve made their home on the Hiebel family farm. They were blessed with one daughter, Donna. They worked the farm until retiring in 1992.

Following retirement they moved to Parkers Prairie, MN to be close to Donna. Three years later they moved to Alexandria. Following Steve’s death in 2002 Elsie lived at Winona Shores for a time. She returned to Parkers Prairie in 2007. Six years later she moved to Mary Murphy’s Senior Foster Care home in Clitherall.

Elsie and Steve enjoyed their time together. They took many trips throughout the United States including a trip to Alaska. They made several trips to Nashville. They also made several trips out to Montana and Wyoming where they hunted deer together; Elsie was an excellent shot. They also liked to go for drives just to have breakfast in a different town and see the countryside. They also enjoyed coffee daily with friends and neighbors. Elsie also enjoyed fishing in the summertime.

Elsie enjoyed doing craftwork and had some clever creations. She also enjoyed doing puzzles. She was an excellent cook and whenever there was going to be a wedding the Prchal girls got together to make hundreds of kolaches. Her heritage was important to her; she enjoyed genealogy and was able to speak some of the Czech language. Elsie was also an excellent baker and a skilled cake decorator. She created many cakes for area weddings, anniversaries, birthdays and other special occasions. Elsie’s greatest joy was her family; the time she spent with Donna, her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Elsie was a kind and generous grandmother and person.

On Thursday, July 6, 2017 Elsie died at the age of eighty-nine years, just one day short of her ninetieth birthday. She is preceded in death by her husband, Steve Hiebel; and siblings, Martha Pronek, Blanche Bartos, Lavina Chlian and Lester Prchal. Elsie is survived by her daughter, Donna Krull of Parkers Prairie; grandchildren, Anna Hvezda-Anderson of Alexandria, Matthew Hvezda and wife Alicia of Parkers Prairie, Amanda Krull and Jordan Halverson of Garfield, Terry Storey and fiancé Heather of St. Cloud, and great grandchildren, Courtney Ruckheim, Jayme Haabala, Levi Calloway, Sami Krueger, Andrew Hvezda, Ashleigh Pray, Aaliyah Pray, Sarah LeBlanc, and Sydney Halverson.
