Elsie Emily (Wendt) Neumann was born on January 31, 1918 in Watertown, WI to R.J. and Anna (Gauerke) Wendt. She grew up in Watertown and was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith, and she attended Watertown schools. Elsie worked at Luick Ice Cream Company and at International Harvester in Milwaukee, WI. On June 26, 1943, Elsie married Harold Neumann at Sherman Park Lutheran Church in Milwaukee, WI. They moved to Villard, MN in 1945, and farmed there for 42 years. Elsie and Harold moved to Alexandria in 1987. Elsie was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Alexandria and the American Legion Auxiliary in Villard. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, baking, and especially helping her neighbors. She was also an avid fan of the Minnesota Twins and the Green Bay Packers. Elsie was recently a resident of Peaceful Bliss Assisted Living in Alexandria where she enjoyed many friends. She especially enjoyed being a dining room hostess, calling Bingo games, and taking part in many activities. Elsie died on January 8, 2013 at the Douglas County Hospital in Alexandria at the age of 94. She is survived by one son, Bob (Mary) Neumann of Sartell, MN; one daughter, Peggy (Dan) Gades of Waseca, MN; one granddaughter, Lisa (Kevin Beyer) Gades of Aurora, IL; grandsons, Todd (Amanda) Gades of Lakeville; Jason (Angela) Neumann of St. Cloud, and Jonathan Neumann of Madison, WI; great-grandson, Aaron Neumann; great-granddaughter, Emily Neumann of St. Cloud; and one sister, Ann Fischer of Sandusky, MI. Elsie was preceded in death by her husband, Harold; son, Allen; parents, R.J and Anna; five brothers and three sisters. A funeral service was held on Friday, January 11, 2013 at Zion Lutheran Church in Alexandria with Reverend David Hinz officiating. Music was provided by organist, Mertice Brueske and soloist, Dan Olson. Interment was in Lake Leven Cemetery in rural Villard. Casket bearers were Lisa Gades, Todd Gades, Jason Neumann, Jon Neumann, Gerald Wildman, and John Johnson. Honorary casket bearers were Elsie?s great-grandchildren, Aaron Jason Neumann and Emily Elsie Neumann. Arrangements are with the Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria
