Ervin H. Meyer age 93 of Alexandria died on Saturday, April 30, 2016 at his home. A Funeral Service will be held 11:30 AM on Wednesday, May 4, 2016 at Zion Lutheran Church in Alexandria. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday.
Obituary
Ervin Henry Meyer was born on December 10, 1922 in George, Iowa to Henry and Dena (Denekas) Meyer. He attended school through the eighth grade before working for his father on the farm. Ervin later worked as a hired hand for various farmers in Southern Minnesota.
On December 4, 1946, Ervin was united in marriage to Betty Johnson on his parents’ farm in rural Kensington, MN. The couple lived in southern Minnesota where Ervin continued working for farmers. Ervin and Betty were blessed with four children, Wanda, Darrell, Larry and Jodi. The family moved to Norcross and Barrett area where Ervin continued working for farmers before settling in the Hoffman area where they rented their own farm. They farmed until 1962, and the couple moved to Alexandria. Ervin went to work at the power plant for a time and then drove dump truck for construction companies in the area. Ervin went to work at Land O’ Lakes for 20 years before retiring in 1985.
Ervin was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church, Nelson Men’s Club, and member of the Eagles Club for 15 years. He loved watching squirrels and birds, especially the Martins. Ervin had a good sense of humor and loved the sayings; “that’s the way the mop flops” and “by golly”. He was a very good handyman and loved fixing things. He also enjoyed gardening, trapping, and spearing for Northerns.
Ervin died on Saturday, April 30, 2016 at his home at the age of 93. He is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Betty; sons, Darrell (Joann) Meyer of Rogers, and Larry Meyer of Alexandria; daughters, Wanda Navratil of Alexandria, and Jodi (Shawn) Abraham of St. Cloud; ten grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Ervin is preceded in death by parents, Henry and Dena; sister, Pansy Nibbe; and brother, Art Meyer.
A funeral service was held on Wednesday, May 4, 2016 at Zion Lutheran Church in Alexandria with Reverend David Hinz and Geoff Gronewold officiating. Interment was held at Evergreen Cemetery in Alexandria.
