Erving Elmer Jensen was born on December 23, 1918 in Baldwin, Wisconsin the youngest of four children born to Christ and Johanna (Busbala) Jensen. Erving attended country school through the 8th grade and then helped on the family farm where neighbor helped neighbor and wonderful relationships were built.
Erving served his country during World War II in the United States Navy and was proud of being a sailor. While home on leave Erving met the love of his life, Ethel Johnson. The couple was married when Erving returned home on leave the second time in Nelson. After their marriage the couple moved to Baldwin where they lived until Erving’s Navy duties were done.
When he was honorably discharged the Jensens moved to Garfield, MN where they made their home. They were blessed with three children: Katherine, twins: Erving Jr, and Elizabeth. Erving held several jobs throughout the years and retired from the Alex Street Dept.
Erving loved the outdoors, playing cards and visiting with friends. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. The memories of family camping trips, walking the Railroad tracks with the grandchildren, fixing old snowmobiles so they could play on them. He later cherished his great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. He lived life and practiced and walked his faith daily and was always glad to be “home”. He was a lifetime member of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Garfield, where he served as Chairman of the church council along with other duties in the church. He was also proud of being Boy Scout leader in Garfield.
Erving died on Thursday, April 21, 2016. He is survived by his three children: Katherine Kasten of Glenwood, MN, Elizabeth (Rodney) Engfer of Alexandria, MN, Erving Jensen Jr. (Lillian) of Texas; seven grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren, five great great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ethel; granddaughter, Bonnie Kasten; his parents and three sisters: Ann, Doris, Marion.
Memorial service will be held on Thursday, April 28, 2016, 2:00 PM at Anderson Funeral Home with a visitation one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at St. Luke’s Cemetery in Garfield.
