Eunice Mae Lydia Backlund was born on February 10, 1926 one of four children to Swan and Clara (Olson) Backlund of rural Farwell. Eunice attended grade school in Oscar Lake, Farwell, Kensington and Holmes City Schools.
She graduated from Alexandria High School in 1944. After graduating from high school she attended beauty school. She worked for a short time as a beautician, but had to leave the profession due to allergies. Eunice then worked at a dental office for the next thirty-two years until she retired.
Eunice enjoyed sewing, using her skills to make beautiful dresses and other clothing to wear for herself, friends and family. She was an active member at Good Shepherd Church in Edina, where she also sang in the choir. Eunice could often be found sitting in her chair reading a good book, writing her memoires or listening to classical music. Her daddy taught her as a child how to play the guitar.
Eunice was the type of woman that never complained and was always appreciative of the life that God gave her. She was fiercely independent, but could still be gentle and kind to all that she met. Her spirit will be deeply missed by her friends and family.
Eunice went to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, October 13, 2016 at the age of ninety. She is survived by her sisters, Shirley Peterson, Marlys Morland; brother, Douglas (Lois) Backlund; many nieces, nephews; great and great-great nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, Swan and Clara Backlund; brothers and their wives, Kermit and Viola Backlund, Gordon and Genevieve Backlund; sisters and their husbands, Doris and Ted Junkermeier, Ruth and Lester Spilseth; brother in law, Robert Morland.
