Evangeline Hens

Evangeline Frieda Shouts was born July 29, 1921 in Mankato, MN, the daughter of Frank and Frieda (Wendt) Shouts. She grew up in Mankato where she attended school. Following her schooling Evangeline helped raise her brothers and sister.
On November 29, 1939 Evangeline was united in marriage to Henry Hens in Mankato. He couple made their home in Mankato where they were blessed with two children, David and Judy. Evangeline was an at home mom; she loved raising her children and making a home for her family.
Following Henry’s retirement the couple moved to Carlos, MN to be closer to Judy. Evangeline enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening. She liked to can and pickle her produce. Evangeline loved visiting with people and enjoyed the time she spent with friends and relatives She was a very giving person and would do anything she could for someone in need. After moving to St. William’s Care Center in Parkers Prairie she liked to participate in the care center activities. She appreciated the music provided by the care center and its volunteers. Evangeline’s greatest joy in life was the time she spent with her grandchildren.
On Monday, January 12, 2015 Evangeline died at the age of ninety-three years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Hens; two grandchildren, Victoria Harris and Kevin Harris; one sister, Betty Oftedahl; and three brothers, James, Robert and Bill Shouts. Evangeline is survived by her son David Hens of Rialto, CA; daughter, Judy Hollatz of Parkers Prairie, MN; and grandchildren, Debbie, Denise, Danny, David and Donald Hens, Terry Tischer, Lori Harry, Perry Tischer and James Tischer and wife, Wanda.
A funeral service will be held at 10 AM Saturday, January 17, 2015 at the Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria. Interment will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Alexandria. A visitation will be held from 9 to 10 AM Saturday at the funeral home.
