Evelyn Gladys (Lueneburg) Giese born on April 14, 1931 to Richard and Melvina Lueneburg of Herman, she was baptized and confirmed at Bethel Lutheran Church in Herman. She attended country school (district 69) and graduated from Herman High School in 1948. She attended Moorhead State University where she earned her associated degree in Elementary Education. She taught school for 3 years in Hoffman. On December 8, 1951, she was united in marriage to Don Giese. They lived on a farm north of Hoffman for 3 years. In 1956, they purchased the present day Giese farm west of Hoffman where she was very active in the farming operation and delivered many meals to the men working in the field. In 1990 they moved off the farm and built a house in Elbow Lake. Faith was extremely important to Evie. She taught Sunday school, Release Time; was a member of the altar guild, held office in the Women?s ELCA, Legion Auxiliary and belonged to the Eastern Star of Herman. Evie enjoyed traveling, golfing, reading; life at the lake cabin, fishing, tubing, and especially attending her grandchildren?s activities. Evie passed away on Wednesday, April 28, 2010, at Stevens? Homes Plus in rural Barrett, MN at the age of 79. Preceding her in death were her parents, her sister and two sons Ronald and Randy. Evie is survived by her husband Don, children: Terry (Faye) Giese; Tammi (Dan) McDonald daughter-in-law Diann Giese; brother Milton (Dar) Lueneburg. Grandchildren: Amy(Justin) Puchalski; Andrew Giese; Olivia and Sean McDonald; Rachelle Giese, Ryan (Keri) Giese, Rebekah (Jeff) Schaefer. Great grandchildren: Jayce and Isabelle Puchalski; Kaia Giese; many nieces, nephews and cousins; aunt Nina Johnson and uncle Dennis Hedstrom. A funeral service was held on Sunday, May 2, 2010 at the Messiah Lutheran Church in Hoffman with Reverend Steven Olson officiating. Music was provided by pianist , LaVerne Olson and soloists, Cassie Wiesner and Faye Giese. Interment was in Bethel Cemetery. Casket bearers were Allen Hanson, Dick Craig, Brad Giese, Bradley Lueneburg, Craig Birch and Cary Birch. Honorary casket bearers were Evie?s grandchildren and great-grandchildren and godchildren, Janelle Vipond and Dawn Hempel. Arrangements are with the Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria
