Evelyn Hazel Schwandt Hartung, 91, died on February 6, 2017, at Knute Nelson Home. She was born on November 4, 1925 to Hazel and Walter Schwandt in Paynesville, Minnesota. She attended school in Paynesville and moved to St. Cloud where she worked as Rosie the Riveter during World War II.
Evelyn married Albin Hartung of St. Cloud on October 9, 1945. They were blessed with four daughters: Beverly, Donna, Mari and Patricia. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and loved the many family gatherings. She will be remembered for her love, strength, stability and support that she provided to her family without condition.
Evelyn was a long standing and faithful member of St. Mary's Catholic Church for 68 years. She was a member of the Daughters of Isabella and very active with other committees. She will be missed and her light will continue to shine through all those who had the blessing and privilege to love her and be loved by her.
She was preceded in death by her parents: Walter and Hazel; her husband, Albin; daughter, Patricia; and brother, Hubert. Evelyn is survived by her daughters: Beverly (Rick) of Mankato, Donna Affeldt (Cliff Zins) of Alexandria, Mari (Bill) Leuthner of Alexandria and son-in-law, John Nelson of Willmar; grandchildren: Jamie Affeldt, Tony (Erika) Linnes, Katie (Ryan) Howe, Adam (Sharma) Affeldt, Dr. Kierre Nelson (Brian Greene) Alexander Leuthner, John Ryan Nelson and Ari Leuthner; her beloved great grandchildren: Hannah, Ella and Eben Linnes and Addison Howe; sister-in-law, Vivian Forsberg; many nieces and nephews.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, February 11, 2017, 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church with Father Steve Binsfeld officiating. Entombment will be at St. Mary's Mausoleum. Casket Bearers are Jamie Affeldt, Tony Linnes, Adam Affeldt, Alexander Leuthner, Ari Leuthner, John Ryan Nelson, Ryan Howe. Memorials are preferred in lieu of flowers.
