Evelyn Edna Rounds was born April 25, 1923 in Iroquois, SD the daughter of Jesse and Grace (McNeil) Rounds. As a young child her family moved to the Eagle Bend, MN area and later to Carlos, MN. She graduated from Central High school in Alexandria in 1941. Evelyn was baptized as a young adult in San Antonio, TX. While her family was hosting a group of duck hunters she met one of the hunters, a young Russell Henningsgaard. Later the two became high school sweethearts. Russell went off to serve in the Air Corps at Gulfport, MS. Evelyn traveled to Gulfport when she and Russell were asked to stand up for some friends who were getting married. This gave Russell an idea. On May 14, 1942 Russell was given his best birthday present ever when he and Evelyn were united in marriage at Gulfport. The couple was blessed with five children, Gareth, Sharon, Russell, Jr., Susan and Deanna. During the rest of the war Evelyn joined her husband who was stationed in San Antonio and later in Oklahoma. Following the war the couple made their home in Rockford, IL. Evelyn worked for National Lock Co. and later for community National Bank. In 1955 Evelyn and her family moved to Alexandria, MN. They farmed on a farm southeast of Alexandria. Evelyn also worked part-time at various jobs in Alexandria. Evelyn was very active at Calvary Lutheran Church; she participated in church events and volunteered her time as much as she could. Evelyn enjoyed collecting dolls and belonged to a doll club. She also enjoyed Shirley Temple movies. Evelyn was always spirited and full of life. In high school she sang and danced. Later she learned to tap dance, square dance and swing dance. Evelyn would entertain her children by tap dancing and yodeling. Evelyn?s sense of humor was a wonderful gift to her family. Spending time with her husband, her children and her grandchildren were most important to Evelyn. Her and Russell were together for sixty-seven very happy years. On Friday, October 9, 2009 Evelyn died at the age of eighty-six years. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Vernon and Murray Rounds: and four sisters, Helen Little, Eleanor ?Shy? Rounds, Muriel ?Birdie? Johnson and Wilma ?Billie? Garbisch. Evelyn is survived by her husband, Russell Henningsgaard of Alexandria, sons, Gareth Henningsgaard of Stillwater and Russell Henningsgaard, Jr. of Alexandria; three daughters, Deanna and husband, John McCabe, of Alexandria, Sharon and husband, George Clifford, of Phoenix, AZ and Susan and husband, Virgil Moore, of Phoenix; grandchildren, Jacob, Jordan Jennifer and Janessa Henningsgaard, Scott, Courtney and Matthew Clifford, Gabriel, Jessie, Sara and Jason Henningsgaard and Nathan, Kali and Riley McCabe; twelve great grandchildren; and one sister, Jean Rounds of Alexandria; and many nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, October 14, 2009 at 11 AM at Calvary Lutheran Church in Alexandria. Reverend Dale Olson will officiate. Kim Byrne and Jennifer Maloney will provide music. Interment will follow in Kinkead Cemetery. Casket bearers are her grandsons, Nathan McCabe, Riley McCabe, Scott Clifford, Gabriel Henningsgaard, Jessie Henningsgaard, Jason Henningsgaard, Jacob Henningsgaard and Jordan Henningsgaard. Honorary casket bearers include Courtney Clifford, Matthew Clifford, Kali McCabe, Sara Henningsgaard, Jennifer Henningsgaard and Janessa Henningsgaard. Arrangements are with Anderson Funeral Home.
