Evelyn Marie (Roenfeld) Jensen was born to Harry and Sophia (Fischer) Roenfeld on March 1, 1930, near Glenwood, Iowa. She was born on a family farm, with four brothers who are all deceased: Harry Jr., Wilbert, Marvin, and Robert. Evelyn loved living on the farm, being around the animals and helping care for them.
When she was fourteen years old, the family moved to a farm near Walnut, Iowa where she finished the 8th grade. She wasn’t able to finish high school because there weren’t any buses there at that time, so she worked at home.
In 1948, there was a boy from Wisconsin that came to Iowa to work at his cousins, across the field as a hired hand, and that is how Evelyn met the love of her life, Ruben Jensen. The couple got married in 1950 in the Lutheran church in Elkhorn, Iowa. To this union, they were blessed with three daughters: Ilene, Loraine, and Cheryl, who passed away after open heart surgery when she was five years old. In 1976, the couple along with Ruben’s three sisters took a ten-day trip to Denmark to visit relatives and friends. During their trip, a family reunion was held on Ruben’s dad’s home place with over one hundred first cousins, aunts, and uncles. So many fond memories were made on this trip and are still talked about.
Evelyn and Ruben enjoyed spending six months out of the year in Scottsdale, AZ with family and friends. They also cherished the times they visited Branson, MO to take in all the shows. Evelyn like to spend her free time gardening, working with flowers, and decorating her house.
Evelyn passed away on Monday, April 11, 2022, at her home surrounded by her family. She is survived by her loving husband: Ruben; two daughters: Ilene (Steve) Kahler of Plattsmouth, NE and Loraine Jensen of Alexandria; four grandchildren: Dennis Kahler, Kevin Kahler, David Porter, and Daniel Porter; and four great-grandchildren: Kaiden, Charlee Jo, Justice, and Kelsie. Evelyn is preceded in death by her parents; her daughter; her great-grandson, and her brothers.
