Evelyn Myrin

Evelyn Mae Strom was born October 1, 1930 in Brandon, MN, the daughter of John and Julia (Kohlberg) Strom. She was baptized at Chippewa Lutheran Church in Brandon. Evelyn attended school at District 48 and graduated from Brandon High School.

Following school Evelyn worked at Herberger’s in Alexandria and worked as a nanny in the area.

Evelyn was united in marriage to Eugene Ernest Myrin on August 2, 1951 at Chippewa Lutheran Church. The couple lived in Killeen, TX for two years as Eugene was stationed there while serving in the US Army. Upon Eugene’s discharge from the service, the couple moved to Garfield, MN where they ran a dairy and grain farm for the next forty years. During this time Evelyn earned a Women in Agriculture certificate through the Alexandria Technical College.

In 2003, following Eugene’s complete retirement from farm work, the couple moved to Alexandria. In April of 2017 Evelyn became a resident at the Edgemont Place in Blaine to be closer to her children.

Evelyn was an active volunteer at her church and for several other community groups or events. She was a member of the Priscilla Circle, the Homemakers group and volunteered with the Parkinson’s Support Group. She also volunteered as an election judge for many years and gave her time to the Boy Scouts of America and to 4-H. Being a good neighbor was important to Evelyn. Friends were dear to her.

For many years she kept busy doing craftwork and woodworking projects. Evelyn and Eugene spent time traveling; they made it to forty-eight states and eleven countries.

Evelyn came from a large, close-knit family and children were important to her. She and Gene were blessed by God with four children; all four came to them through adoption. Evelyn always made room in her heart for any adopted child. She loved the time she spent with her family. Evelyn was very proud of her children and grandchildren. She especially loved the holidays when all of her family would gather together. Christmas and the fourth of July were wonderful for her.

On Thursday, December 21, 2017, Evelyn died at the age of eighty-seven years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene Myrin; brothers, Roy, Vernon, Clifford, Francis, Kenny and Raymond Strom; and one sister, Joyce Lehn. Evelyn is survived by her children, Thomas Myrin and wife, Robin, of Elkhorn, WI, Lori Jensen and husband, Mike, of St. Francis, MN, Steven Myrin of Carlos, MN and Lisa McBain and husband, Joe, of Minnetonka, MN’; grandchildren, Angela Myrin, Amanda Boldon and husband, Kyle, Chloe Jensen, Maxwell Jensen, Joey McBain and Nick McBain; great grandchildren, Malainey Myrin, Alexander Myrin, Wyatt Boldon and Oscar Boldon; sisters-in-law, Norma Scherer of Alexandria and Ethelwyn Johnson of Bloomington, MN; and many nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at 11 AM, Saturday, January 6, 2017 at the First Lutheran Church in Alexandria. Reverend Greg Billberg will officiate. Interment will follow in the Oak Hill Cemetery near Garfield, MN. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 PM Friday, January 5, at Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria.  Additional visitation will be one hour prior to the service at church.

Memorials are preferred to Alexandria Area Parkinson's Support Group or to First Lutheran Church in Alexandria.
