Evelyn Theresia Schecher, 91, died on Wednesday, January 14th, 2015, at Diamond Willow in Alexandria.
Evelyn was born on January 2, 1924 in Brandon Township, the daughter of Emil and Mary (Wagner) Larson. Evelyn was baptized and confirmed at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Brandon. She attended country school and graduated from Brandon High School in 1942.
On September 7, 1943, Evelyn was united in marriage to Alois Joseph Schecher, son of Laurence and Maratha (Webskowski) Schecher. They lived south of Brandon and farmed until 1980. They built a new home in Brandon at that time. Evelyn was a hard working farm wife and mother. Evelyn also worked as a nursing assistant at Crestview Manor in Evansville and as a kitchen staff at Brandon School. Alois and Evelyn celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary shortly before Alois’ death in January of 1994.
Evelyn moved in to Windmill Ponds in Alexandria in 2006 and to Diamond Willow in 2009.
She was a member of St. Ann’s Christian Mother, and St. Jude’s mission circle. She also taught CCD classes for many years. She spent a lot of time with her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren which she really enjoyed. Evelyn loved to dance, play cards, gardening, quilting, sewing pajamas and had a strong faith.
Evelyn is survived by her two sons, Al Schecher of Chandler, Texas, Duane (Beth) of Glencoe, MN and daughter Mary (Willis) Krueger of Alexandria, MN. She was the proud grandmother of Donna Rickert of Sequin, TX, Grace Johnson of Ashby, MN, Sue (Bill) Stahlke of Mora, MN, A.J. Schecher of Tyler, TX, Jason (Allie) Krueger of Merrifield, MN, Tyler Krueger of Alexandria, MN; Naomi Schecher of Marshall, MN, Michael Schecher of Duluth, MN, Heidi Krueger of Fargo, ND, and Jacob Schecher of Willmar, MN. Ten great grandchildren Meko (Casey) Nelson of Ashby, MN, Taylor Rickert of Mora, MN, Tyler Eggum of Fargo, ND, Chasity Spenst of Fergus Falls, MN, Aliza Johnson of Ashby, MN; Seth Stahlke of Mora, MN, Tevin, Thad, Ty and Trace Schecher of DeRitter, LA and great great grandchildren Nathaniel and Logan Nelson and Haliey Rickert.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Alois, parents, brother Jack Larson and several sisters and brothers in law.
A mass of Christian burial will be held on Saturday, January 17, 2015 at 12:00 PM at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Brandon. Visitation will be held from 10 AM until the time of the service with a Parish Rosary beginning at 10AM at the church on Saturday. Interment will be in the church cemetery.
