Evelyn Lucile Thompson was born in Farwell, MN July 25th, 1920 to August and Matilda Olson. She had four brothers and no sisters. Evey attended elementary school near their home north of Farwell and graduated from Kensington High School.
Evey met Warren Thompson when they both worked in Rockford, IL. They met through mutual acquaintances. They both moved back to Minnesota where Evey worked in Minneapolis and Warren lived in Princeton.
Evelyn and Warren were united in Marriage on May 5, 1945 at Augustana Lutheran Church in downtown Minneapolis and lived there until the first son, Richard was born. They then moved to Farwell and lived in four different houses up until 1964 when they moved to Alexandria, MN. Evey and Warren had three children: Richard, Steven and Kathleen.
Evey had many jobs over her life time. She was always the first to help anyone, especially her mom, her brothers, aunts and uncles. She was always busy, cooking, baking, cleaning and just being a great mom. Her paying jobs were cleaning houses, cabins, picking eggs and ironing. She finally got a desk job at Bethany Home as a payroll clerk. From there, she ended up working at Central Junior High as a Study hall Monitor and also an 8th grade Science assistant. Evey, in her spare time (HAH) taught Sunday school, Vacation Bible School, 8th grade confirmation, was on many committees at church, attended Ladies Aid, Bible Study, Church Circle and still had time to have Birthday parties for her neighbors, friends and families. She volunteered at Douglas county Hospital and had over 2000 hours in. Evey and Warren both led very Spiritual Life’s and were dedicated and active members of Calvary Lutheran Church for 50 years.
She would write letters to all the Grandkids every Sunday and drew a picture on every one. She cheered up everyone with her radiant smile and laughter. Evey was a loving, kind person and loved God with all her heart. She was the same to everybody and greeted everybody with a smile and hug.
Evelyn Thompson, 94, passed away peacefully on October 3rd, 2014. She was active and enjoyed life until the end. Memorial Service will be held on October 10th at 1:30pm at Calvary Lutheran Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to Love INC.
She is survived by children: Rick (Liz) Thompson, Steve (Candy) Thompson, Kathleen (Dave) Larson; Grandchildren: Sara (Chris) Zalek, Luke Thompson, Joshua Thompson, Abigail (Scott) Dolbear, Diana (Troy) Huffer; Great-Grandchildren: Ethan, Joaquin, and Aiyana. Preceded in death by husband Warren Thompson; Brothers: Cliff Olson, Al Olson, Lloyd Olson, Donnie Olson; Grandson: Aaron Larson, and many other loving family and friends.
