Evelyn Tvrdik

Evelyn Rose Tvrdik was born November 21, 1918 in Lake Mary Township, MN, the daughter of Anton and Marie (Sejnost) Brezina. She attended country school in District 74. Following her schooling she worked in the area as a nanny. Evelyn moved to Chicago, where her aunt and uncle lived, and worked for several years in the Chicago area as a housekeeper. In 1939 Evelyn returned to the Alexandria area. On December 11, 1940 Evelyn was united in marriage to Daniel Tvrdik at First Lutheran Church in Alexandria. The couple made their home on a farm southwest of Alexandria where they farmed for many years. The couple was blessed with six children. Evelyn has been a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary since 1967. She was also a member of the Eagles in Alexandria for several years and belonged to the ZCBJ Lodge in Lake Mary Township. Evelyn enjoyed sewing in her earlier years and later did crochet work. She was a gardener and grew fruits, vegetables and flowers at the farm. She baked for her family and friends and was known for her kolaches. Evelyn spent time reading. She also enjoyed sports on the television. Evelyn was a big fan of the Minnesota Twins and the Minnesota Vikings; she knew how baseball and football should be played. Evelyn was proud of her children and their families and enjoyed spending time with them. On Tuesday, March 15, 2011, Evelyn died at the age of ninety-two years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Daniel Tvrdik; one brother, Thomas Brezina; and two sisters, Rose Hlinsky and Lily Whiteman. Evelyn is survived by four sons, Dale Tvrdik and wife, Lynn, Loren Tvrdik and wife, Nadine, Leslie Tvrdik, and Norman Tvrdik and wife, Susan; two daughters, Bernice Trousil and husband, Donald, and Ruth Willett and husband, Raymond; grandsons, Frank Trousil and wife, Lori, Matthew Lurken-Tvrdik and wife, Kelly, Andrew Tvrdik, Timothy Tvrdik and Gregory Tvrdik; granddaughters, Laurie Trousil and husband, Alan Plantikow; and Tracie Crouse and husband, Jeff; step-grandsons, Jason Willett and wife, Cathy, and Ryan Willett and wife, Nichole; twelve great-grandchildren; one half sister, Adeline Tvrdik; and many nieces and nephews. A funeral service was held on Saturday, March 19, 2011 at the Anderson Funeral Home with Pastor Wayne Erickson officiating. Margaret Kalina and Patrick Kalina provided music. Interment followed in the Evergreen Cemetery. Casket bearers were Frank Trousil, Matt Lurken-Tvrdik, Andy Tvrdik, Tim Tvrdik, Greg Tvrdik, Jeff Crouse and Alan Plantikow. Honorary casket bearers were Laurie Trousil, Lori Trousil, Tracie Crouse and Kelly Lurken-Tvrdik. Arrangements are with the Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria.
