Fay Fred Martin was born April 19, 1915 in Little Sauk, MN, the son of Wesley and Tillie (Holmberg) Martin. He was raised and schooled in rural Todd County. Fay began working in the Civilian Conservation Corp camps. He then began farming with his brother, Jesse. On June 3, 1939 Fay was united in marriage to Fern Lyon. The couple made their home at Grey Eagle, MN where they farmed. In 1948 they bought a farm at Foley, MN. In 1965 he founded the Martin Brothers Terrazzo & Tile Co. In 1971 Fay owned and operated a gas station at Clear Lake, MN, which later expanded into government surplus sales. Fay enjoyed working with iron and his John Deere garden tractors. He liked deer hunting and was an avid fisherman. His wife, Fern, was his favorite fishing buddy. They fished in the summer and winter; and enjoyed traveling in their motorhome. In his later years, Fay continued sawing wood and making firewood. Fay?s family was most important to him. He was loving, caring and devoted to his family. He was their rock and will be dearly missed. On Wednesday, March 26, 2008 Fay died at the age of ninety-two years. He was preceded in death by his wife, Fern Martin; brother, Jesse Martin; and sisters, Vera Hutchins, Dorothy Nelson, Gail Trumble and Lori Buchanan. Fay is survived by his three daughters, Lonnie and husband, Bill Davis, of Randall, MN, Terry and husband, Tom Toenjes, of Carlos, MN and Penny and husband, Kenny Fischer, of Albany, MN; five grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren; brothers, Orville and wife, Lillian Martin, of Long Prairie, MN, Genard and wife, Marcella Martin, of Anoka, MN, and Ralph Martin of Mexico; seven sisters, Verna Burr of Henning, MN, Myrtle Mickelson of Denver, CO, Tam Christenson of Enumclaw, WA, Enid Beck of Long Prairie, Joy and husband, Hugh McWhorter, of Miltona, MN, Carol Mullen of Alexandria and Gwen Norby of Champlin, MN; and many nieces and nephews. In celebration of his life the service was held Monday, March 31, 2008 at the United Methodist Church in Alexandria. Reverend Jeff Hansen officiated. Lonnie Kriel, as organist, and Sharon Sly-Durante, as soloist. Interment followed in the Carlos Prairie Cemetery at Carlos. Casket bearers included Hugh McWhorter, John Stuckel, Jim Braaten, Dominic Landowski, Darrell Martin and Corrie Mattocks. Honorary casket bearers included Bill David, John Kaproth, Leon Moeller and Donnie Winkelman. Arrangements were with the Anderson Funeral Home.
