Florence Scholten was born on February 17, 1922, the daughter of William and Martha (Johanson) Zierman in Cushing, MN. She graduated from Little Falls High School and attended the Hairdressing Academy in Minneapolis. Florence met Henry Scholten while he was visiting his sister Geneva. Florence married Henry on December 14, 1945 in San Francisco, CA. In 1946 Florence and Henry started farming south of Brandon where they lived until April 1975. They moved to Brandon, Cambridge, and then back to Garfield for Fifteen years. Florence and Henry wintered in Mesa, AZ for twenty-four years. In May of 2000 they moved to Ridgeview Place in Sank Rapids, MN. Florence was a life member of the Auxiliary VFW Post #936 in Alexandria and past president in 1966. She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Garfield since 1950 and belonged to the Ladies Aid. Florence was a very caring, loving and compassionate mother, wife, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She worked hard all her life and taught her daughters a strong work ethic. Florence died on October 6, 2012 at the Country Manor Nursing Home in Sartell surrounded by her family. She is survived by her daughters, Diane (Ron) Buckhouse of Perham, MN/Sioux Falls, SD, Maxine Buttweiler of St. Cloud, MN, Judy (Bob) Larson of Perham, Bonnie (Don) Hermanutz of Waite Park, MN; eight grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; sisters and brothers, Alice, Irene, Wilma, Leonard, Jane, Vernon (Norma), Walter (Suzanne), and sister-in-laws Donna and Lois. She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Scholten; parents, brothers, Frank, Oscar and Art, and son-in-law Larry Buttweiler. The family wishes to thank the staff at Country Manor Center for their dedication, love, and support to our mother. The family requests memorial contributions to be made to St. John's Lutheran Church in Garfield. A funeral service will be held 11 AM, Wednesday, October 10, 2012 at St. John?s Lutheran Church in Garfield. Reverend Ed Borchardt will officiate. Irma Brockberg will provide music. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Arrangements are with the Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria.
