Floyd Alford Eastlund was born on April 11, 1926, in Carlos Township the son of Alfred and Elsie (Granlund) Eastlund. He attended country school in Nelson. Floyd proudly served his country during World War II in the United States Army 290th Infantry. He was injured during combat in April of 1945 and received two Purple Hearts, a Bronze Star and numerous other commendations. In January of 1946 he was Honorably Discharged.
After returning home Floyd worked at the Nelson Creamery. In 1949 Floyd met MarLynn Tangen and the couple was married July 10, 1950. To this union two children were born, Kathryn Ruth and Elizabeth Ruth. Floyd worked in shoe sales in the early 1960’s in Grand Junction, Colorado and Omaha, Nebraska. Eventually Floyd and MarLynn came back ‘home” to Alexandria and Floyd worked for Iverson’s Shoes. In 1964 he started with JC Penney managing the shoe department and eventually became the Senior Sales Associate. When JC Penney moved to the “big mall”, Floyd decided it was time to retire his shoe career.
Floyd loved hunting in his younger years, hanging out with his buddies, going on Sunday drives with his sweetheart and spending time with his family.
Floyd died on Sunday, September 20, 2015. He is survived by his daughter, Kathy Patton and husband, Alan; son, Robert Peterson and wife Karen; grandchildren, Mark Erickson and wife ,Jackie, CJ Erickson and wife, Carly, Jordan Erickson and wife, Emily, Emalee Erickson and significant other, Cody Gibson, Toni Hadland and husband, Eric, Meridee Rodel and husband, Brian, Bobby Peterson and wife Julie, Ashley Heinecke and husband, Jon and JD Ellingson; great-grandchildren, Carter, Gavin, Ella, Sam, Titus, Harper, Kason, Kolden, Sam H., Hannah, Jack, Josie, Maddox and Lily; sister, Katherine “Solveig” (Heilig) Balance and husband Thax.
He is preceded in death by his wife, MarLynn; infant daughter, Elizabeth Eastlund; granddaughter, Jill Ellingson.
Graveside service was held on Thursday, September 24, 2015, 4:00 PM at Kinkead Cemetery. Memorials are preferred to Hospice of Douglas County or First Lutheran Church. Arrangements are with the Anderson Funeral Home. www.andersonfuneral.net
