Frances Becklund

Frances Margaret (Olson) Becklund was born September 7, 1923 in Hillsboro, ND, the daughter of Pedor and Hannah (Peterson) Olson. She grew up in Fosston, MN, where she graduated from high school. When Frances was 17 years old, her father Pedor died. After high school, Frances moved to Minneapolis with her mother. Hannah worked as a seamstress. Frances got a job as a waitress at a caf� called ?The Penguin? on Lake Street in South Minneapolis. The caf� was located half a block away from the small shop of a young watchmaker, Wayne Becklund. Wayne became a frequent customer at The Penguin. Food turned to love, and Frances and Wayne were married in 1946. The business they built together, Becklund Jewelers, in now located in Eden Prairie, MN and is operated by their sons Gregory and Jeffrey, and grandson Jeff. Frances and Wayne retired in 1998, and moved to their home on Lake Carlos, north of Alexandria, MN. Frances loved gardening. Since buying what was then just a cabin in 1962, she had planted hundreds of perennials, which bloom from May until frost. Wayne passed away in 2009. Frances continued to live in her home until February 2014, when she moved to Knute Nelson nursing home in Alexandria. On April 23, 2014, Frances died at the age of ninety years. Frances is survived by her two sons, Gregory (Brigetta) Becklund of Bloomington, MN and Jeffrey (Jill) Becklund of Minneapolis; six grandchildren, Erika (Jonathan) Mayshar, Marie (Jacob) Tromburg, Kristen (John Kinder) Becklund, Laura (Seth) Rima, Jeff Becklund, and Scott (fianc�e, Leah Nelsen) Becklund; seven great-grandchildren, Jude, Aviyah, and Joella Tromburg, Elliana, Oren and Zev Mayshar, and Lindy Rima; sister, Doris Anderson of Fossten, MN; and brother, Irwin Olson of Mesa, AZ. A memorial service will be held 1:00 PM on Monday, May 12, 2014 at Shalom Lutheran Church in Alexandria with Reverends Grant Aaseng and Rol Halvorson officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday. Interment will be at Kinkead Cemetery in Alexandria. Arrangements are with the Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria
