Frances Hedlof

Frances E. Dobberpuhl was born July 8, 1922 in Carlos Township, MN, the daughter of Henry and Louise (Drussell) Dobberpuhl. She attended school in Districts 30 and 36 and also Zion Lutheran School. Frances graduated from Alexandria Central High School in 1940 Frances began working at North American Creameries in 1943 as a bookkeeper. Frances later worked as a bookkeeper for the Production Credit Association office, Reuters Garage, Agriculture and Soil Conservation office, Sieling Oil Co., Hackman Oil Co. and Scott Taverne. She retired in 1983. Following her retirement she helped her sister, Marion, with the lunch wagon at auctions for fourteen years. For many years Frances coordinated buses to the casinos. On May 28, 1947 Frances was united in marriage to Ted Hedlof. The couple purchased farms in Belle River Township where the farmed for thirty-three years. After Ted?s death in 1980 Frances moved to an apartment in Alexandria. Frances was a longtime member of Fahlun Lutheran Church. She was active in the ladies aid there and also served on the church council. Frances enjoyed playing cards and bingo. Frances did a great deal of crocheting; most of which she gave away to friends and family. She loved going to the Douglas County Fair where she won many prizes for her crocheting. She also liked to collect Teddy Bears. Family was very important to Frances, She was always willing to lend a hand to family and friends; she enjoyed helping out with celebrations and special events. Frances also had fun traveling to Califorinia, Arizona, Wisconsin, Nevada, South Dakota and the Ozarks. On Friday, January 30, 2009 Frances died at the age of eighty-six years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ted Hedlof, Her parents, two sisters-in-law, Elmera and Fyrn Dobberpuhl; and one brother-in-law, Arnold Kuhne. Frances is survived by her brother, Marvin Dobberpuhl of Alexandria; her sister, Marion Dahlke and husband, Ken, of Alexandria; nieces, Linda Sundgaard and husband, Dan, of Burnsville, MN and Laura Capp of Alexandria; and several other nieces and nephews; her great nieces and nephews; and a great great nephew. A funeral service was held Tuesday, February 3, 2009 at First Lutheran Church in Alexandria. Rev. Joan Wittrock officiated. Music was provided by Randy Morken. Interment followed in the Fahlun Lutheran Church Cemetery. Casket bearers included Brad cap. Nicholas Sundgaard, Mitchell Sundgaard, Sam Strassburg, Dan Sundgaard and Heidi Capp. Honorary casket bearers included Laura Capp, Linda Sundgaard, Eunice Baker, Maria Segovia, Karen Strassburg, Delores Iverson and Ray Olson. Arrangements were with the Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria.
