Frances Barbara (Klimek) Otto was born on August 22, 1918 in Millerville, MN to John and Barbara (Lambertz) Klimek. She attended county school through the 8th grade.
Frances was united in marriage to Nick Otto in a double wedding with her sister Lorraine, on September 29, 1936. The couple was blessed with seven children and farmed in the Millerville area where they lived. In 1973, the couple retired from farming and moved to Alexandria. Frances worked at Yeutter’s Bakery for a number of years. On July 22, 1999 Nick passed away after 62 years of marriage.
Frances was a strong, feisty, God-fearing, independent woman whose work was always completed. She never feared being alone and didn’t expect others to do for her what she could do. Frances was active in her church and belonged to the Christian Mothers. She enjoyed making quilts, gardening, canning, fishing, dancing, playing cards, watching the Minnesota Twins and Wheel of Fortune, and writing in her diary every day. Frances and Nick did a lot of traveling, making trips to Europe, Bahamas and Hawaii as well as many places within the U.S. They enjoyed the company of fun-loving people and had many friends.
Frances died on Thursday, August 28, 2014 at the Douglas County Hospital in Alexandria at the age of 96. She is survived by her children, Walter (Gloria) Otto of Brandon, Richard (Kathy) Otto of Cambridge, Audrey (Ken) Wagner of Brandon, Dennis (Jan) Otto of Millerville, Dewey (Debbie) Otto of Evansville, Ray (Kim) Otto of So. Sioux City, NE, and Cheryl Ronning of Ramsey; 26 grandchildren, 67 great-grandchildren, and 8 great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Frances is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Nick; brothers, Peter and Edmond; and sisters, Lorraine and Tillie; and son-in-law, Ray Ronning.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Tuesday, September 2, 2014 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alexandria with Reverend Steve Binsfeld officiating. Interment was held at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Alexandria.
