Frances Margaret Lueck was born on October 2, 1913 in Hancock, Minnesota to Henry and Eva (Beyer) Lueck. She was baptized at the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Hancock on November 9, 1913. Frances was confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Alexandria in May 1927. The family moved to Alexandria in 1922 and her father built first a barn and then a house on their property on the shores of Lake Victoria. Those buildings are still standing and in use today. Frances attended school in Hancock for her 1st grade, Alexandria public school for 2nd grade and finished her schooling at Zion Parochial School. They walked to Zion School from Lake Victoria. Frances worked ?out? for various area families. She enjoyed when her family made the trip to Holloway to visit with her Beyer grandparents and all her cousins. Frances married Albert Witt on December 22, 1953 at St. John?s Church in Minneapolis. They lived on farms in the Gibbon/Winthrop Minnesota area. Albert died in 1963 and she continued to live on the farm until moving back to Alexandria in 1968 to help care for her mother. Frances built a home in 1978 on land near Lake Victoria close to where she had grown up. Her brother, John, lived with her for many years until his death. She is a long-standing member of Zion Lutheran Church. Frances enjoyed traveling. She traveled all over the United States and to Hawaii and Europe. She liked crocheting. She crocheted many doilies, dresser scarves and two bedspreads. She also made a number of afghans. Frances loved taking photos, growing flowers and bird watching. Frances M. Witt died on Saturday, January 26, 2008 at Knute Nelson at the age of 94. She is survived by her stepdaughter, Gloria (Willard) Larson, living in Hawaii; and a stepson, Don (IdaBell) Witt, living in Gibbon, Minnesota. She has five step-grandchildren and numerous great and great great grandchildren. She also has a sister Lauretta Lueck living in Alexandria, and cousins David and Barb Beyer living in Alexandria. She is preceded in death by her parents and a brother John Lueck. A Funeral Service was held on Tuesday, January 29, 2008 at Zion Lutheran Church with the Reverend Terry Finnern officiating. Irma Brockberg played the organ. Interment was in the Winthrop City Cemetery in Winthrop, MN. Arrangements are with the Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria.
