Frank Benedict Zavadil was born on June 19, 1918 on the farm in Lake Mary Township, Douglas County, Minnesota to Anton and Louise (Kalina) Zavadil. He attended country school through the eighth grade. Frank was drafted to the U.S. Army in 1941 to serve his country during WWII until 1945. Frank was united in marriage Margaret Swonder on November 19, 1945 at the First Congregational Church in Alexandria. The couple moved to Minneapolis where Frank attended Dunwoody Institute and studied to be an electrician. While living in Minneapolis from 1945 through 1968, Frank worked as an electrician, and the couple was blessed with four children. The family moved back to Lake Mary Township where they made their home. Frank started his own electrical company. He also farmed and raised cows, pigs, peacocks, chickens and bees. Frank enjoyed hunting, woodworking, and helping anyone in need. He loved to fly fish, but most important to Frank was his family. Frank died on Monday, May 28, 2012 at Bethany Home in Alexandria at the age of 93. He is survived by his son, Peter and Kathleen Zavadil of Perham, MN; daughters, Mary Claire (Mimi) and Erik Larum of Alexandria, Susan and Norman Tvrdik of Alexandria, and Barbara Vavra of Rochester, MN; grandchildren, Shannon Mohawk of Minneapolis, Lindsey and Noel Schonberg of Alexandria, Cody Zavadil of Fargo, ND, Kelly and Derek Riepe of Perham, and Erik Vavra of Rochester, MN; great-grandchildren, Ethan, William, Natalie Margaret, and Riley Schonberg, Jaxon Zavadil, and Kacie Riepe; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Anton and Louise; wife, Margaret; siblings, Annie, Joe, Pete, Mary, Hank, Elizabeth, Ben, Ray, and Leada; and grandson, Jory Zavadil. A funeral service was held on Thursday, May 31, 2012 at the Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria with Reverend Greg Billberg officiating. Music was provided by pianist, Randy Morken and soloist, Patrick Kalina. Interment was held at Bohemian Independent Cemetery in Reno Township. Military Honors were provided by the Alexandria American Legion Post 87, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 936, and the Minnesota National Honor Guard. Casket bearers were Cody Zavadil, Eric Vavra, Derek Riepe, Noel Schonberg, Dean Radil, and Lee Radil. Honorary casket bearers were Frank?s granddaughters, Shannon Mohawk, Lindsey Schonberg, and Kelly Riepe. Arrangements are with the Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria.
