Frankie Duane Johanson was born on July 9, 1940 at his family’s farm in Holmes City Township. He was one of six children to Isadore and Selma (Christopherson) Johanson. After grade school Frankie helped his family with farming duties. Later Frankie was hired by Douglas County. For thirty seven years, Frankie was the guy whom mowed ditches, drove the gravel truck, road grater, and plowed snow, doing his best to care for and serve his community.
When Frankie was not working he could be found driving a John Deere tractor on the farm or riding snowmobile in the winter. He enjoyed hunting deer, geese, ducks and fishing year round. He was crucial in starting the West Central Hunters for Habitats group and enjoyed sharing his passion of hunting and wildlife with others. After meeting someone only once and they would become friends. He usually would meet his new friends around the county playing pull tabs. He had a close circle of friends and family whom he would go on casino runs with and always had a pocket full of coffee nips to share.
Frankie will be dearly missed by his family and all whom met him. He passed away on Saturday, May 14, 2016, in the home he lived in his entire life, surrounded by his family. He is preceded in death by his parents, Isadore and Selma; brothers, Marvin, Ned and Neal Johanson. He is survived by his sister, Marlene Rupert and husband, James; brother, Dean Johanson and wife, FayeLou; and many nieces, nephews and friends he met along the way.
