Frederick Southerling

Frederick C. ?Fritz? Southerling Frederick Carl Southerling was born on June 18, 1936 in Rose Hill, MN the son of Frederick Sr. and Alta (Mudge) Southerling. Fritz graduated from the Mechanic Arts High School in St. Paul, MN. He then enlisted into the United States Navy Reserve for 2 years and then the United States Marine Corp. for two years. Fritz met Donna Brede and after five years of dating he married Donna on August 9, 1958 at the St. Paul Cathedral. Two daughters were born to this union Kimberly and Elizabeth. Fritz drove truck with World Wide Incorporated for about 19 years and then moved to Alexandria and purchased the Homestead Inn. While Fritz and Donna operated the bar, he drove school bus for District 206 for many years. He was a foster grandparent for children at the Charter School in Osakis, MN. He also was the gate attendant for the Viking Speedway for many years. Fritz was a good provider and a hard workingman. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He will be missed by those who knew and loved him. Frederick ?Fritz? Southerling died on Thursday, June 10, 2010 at the Douglas County Hospital at the age of 73 years old. He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years Donna Southerling of Alexandria, MN; daughters Kim Quinn of Alexandria and Elizabeth (Irvin) Cook of Osakis, MN; grandchildren Jason (Erica) Cook of Brandon, MN; Jeremy (Mandy) Cook of Alexandria; Melissa Quinn of Alexandria; Ashley Quinn of Garfield; 4 great grandchildren; brothers Edward (Char) Southerling, of Eagan, MN; Don (friend Richard) Southerling of Venice, CA; brother-in-law Howard Tellin of Cottage Grove, MN; many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Barbara Tellin. A Memorial Service was held on Tuesday, June 15, 2010 at the Anderson Funeral Home Chapel with Father Steve Binsfeld officiating.
