Garrett Kyle Yell was born in Alexandria, Minnesota, on January 19, 1983, the son of Arlen and Cynthia (Makela) Yell. He was baptized and confirmed at Calvary Lutheran Church and graduated from Jefferson High School in 2002. During his school years Garrett was an Eagle Scout, a championship caliber swimmer in the 50-meter relay and butterfly and played the tenor saxophone in the Marching and Pep bands. Garrett attended the Wadena Technical School and later graduated from the Alexandria Technical College in the Masonry program. He worked in the construction business in Alexandria. On June 24, 2006, Garrett was united in marriage to Christin Weidenbach at the Calvary Lutheran Church in Alexandria. The couple moved to Duluth where they made their home as Garrett was employed as a non-destructive testing inspector by the Acuren Testing and Engineering Company. The couple enjoyed searching for agates along the North Shore. Garrett was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed fishing and hunting. He especially enjoyed trips to the Boundary Waters Canoe area. Garrett died on February 24, 2008, in Duluth, Minnesota, as a result of a snowmobile accident. He is survived by his wife Christin Yell of Duluth and child to be, parents Arlen and Cynthia Yell of Alexandria, brother Grant Yell of Ft. Hood, TX, sister Gabrielle Yell of Alexandria, father-in-law Dub Weidenbach of Alexandria, sister-in-law Katie and husband Brett Bloedorn of Alexandria, nieces and nephews Isabella Husby, Tyler Bloedorn and Blake Bloedorn, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and dogs Gus and Sir Barkly of Cloverleaf. Garrett was preceded in death by his grandparents Floyd and Beatrice Yell and mother-in-law Rose Weidenbach. Funeral services were held on Friday, February 29, 2008, from the Calvary Lutheran Church with Rev. Mark Astrup officiating. Kim Byrne led the music with selections by the Resource Boys, Joanne Nettestad, and Nancy Berns. Interment was in the Kinkead Cemetery with Grant Yell, Eric Paulzine, Nathan Dewald, Landon Dewald, Ben Spitzer, Gabrielle Yell, Clliff Knutson, and Jason Wesen serving as pallbearers.
