Gary J. Becker age 59 of Alexandria died on Tuesday, June 23, 2015 at Knute Nelson. A Funeral Service will be held 11:00 AM on Tuesday, June 30, 2015 at United Methodist Church in Alexandria. Visitation will be held from 4-7 PM on Monday, June 29, 2015 at the Anderson Funeral Home and for one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday.
OBITUARY
Gary John Becker was born on October 26, 1955 in Mahnomen, MN to Victor and Dorothy (Machulda) Becker. He graduated from Mahnomen High School in 1974. Gary attended Staples Technical College and graduated in 1976 from the Diesel program. He then went to work as a mechanic for Ada Implement for two years.
On June 17, 1978, Gary was united in marriage to Heidi Miller at the United Church of Christ in Mahnomen. The couple moved to Wadena for a year where Gary worked at John Deere. In 1979, they moved to Alexandria where Gary worked at Husted Implement for seven years and then at Koeps Corner for three years. In 1989, Gary opened up his own shop, Becker Auto Repair where he continued to work up until a few weeks ago. People admired Gary and his battle with pancreatic cancer, working through his treatments that he endured the past three and half years. Gary loved to work and visiting with his customers. He enjoyed getting up early to go talk with the morning coffee club. Gary also enjoyed traveling for long weekends with his family. Most importantly, he loved the time spent with his family.
Gary died on Tuesday, June 23, 2015 at Knute Nelson in Alexandria at the age of 59. He is survived by his loving wife, Heidi Becker; son, Adam Becker of Alexandria; mother, Dorothy Becker of Mahnomen; brothers, Wayne Becker of Mahnomen, Tom Becker of Frazee, Dennis (Nancy) Becker of Minneapolis, Robert (Jamie) Becker of Glyndon; sister, Mary Becker of Dilworth and Vicky (Jeff) Oberkramer of Villa Ridge, MO; many nieces and nephews; and great nieces and nephews. Gary is preceded in death by his father, Victor; and infant sister, Lisa.
