Gary Hafdal

December 16, 1943 — June 3, 2016

Gary Hafdal was born on December 16, 1943, in Benson, Minnesota the son of Arthur and Lois Hafdal. He was baptized and confirmed in the Catholic Faith. The Hafdal family moved to Alexandria in 1949. He graduated from Alexandria High School in 1961 and furthered his education at St. Cloud State receiving a Degree in Accounting. Gary will be remembered as a loving husband, father, brother and grandfather who enjoyed reading. It is estimated that he read over 3, 000 books since he retired in 2000. Gary loved competition, playing golf, bridge, and hanging out with his kids and grandkids.

On September 22, 1962, Gary was united in marriage to Bette Rauschstadt at St. Mary's Church in Alexandria. To this union three children were born: Bill, Brad and Stacey. The Hafdal's raised their family in Blaine where Gary worked for the IRS as an auditor, auditing General Mills, Pillsbury and 3M and eventually becoming an International Tax Negotiator. He retired from that at the age of 55 and then worked for his brother, Rich at Westlund's Meats as the CFO until fully retiring in 2000.

Gary enjoyed his retirement years in Arizona especially time spent with his dear friends Orv and Pat Omland. He also enjoyed playing golf with his brothers, Jim and Rich, and friend Daniel.
Gary died on Friday, June 3, 2016. He is survived by former wife, Bette, children: Bill (Jane) Hafdal, Brad (Chris) Hafdal, Stacey Linden (Aaron Kaske); grandchildren: Jesse (BreAnna) Hafdal, Jordan, Brady, Jarrek, Bryce; siblings: Karen Bailey, Jim (Wanda) Hafdal, Rich (Sheridan) Hafdal.
He is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Tom Hafdal.

Memorial service will be held on Wednesday, June 8, 2016, 1:00 PM at the Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria with a visitation one hour prior at the funeral home.
