George was born on July 24, 1922, in Orange City, Iowa, the son of Tjeerd and Clara (Dykstra) Goslinga. On March 22, 1944, George was united in marriage to Mavis Tarrell at the Methodist Church in Ireton, Iowa. After their marriage, George served his country in the Merchant Marines from July 1945-April 1946. After returning from the service, George and Mavis resided in Orange City, IA, where he worked as an appliance service man. In 1964, the Goslinga family bought a lot and built a cabin in Alexandria on the east side of Lake Carlos where they would go in the summer. In 1972, they made that their permanent home. George completed his career working at Cenex in Alexandria. George enjoyed fishing, making birdhouses, and waterskiing ? (which he was still able to do on his 80th birthday). He was also politically active in the DFL. George died suddenly, at the age of 86, on Wednesday, February 18, 2009, at the St. Cloud Hospital. He is survived by his wife, Mavis; four children: Sharon & husband, Bruce Swanson of Cottage Grove, MN, Dianne Mouw of Highland Ranch, CO, Terry & wife, Bonnie of Crystal, MN, Brenda & husband, Steve Myers of Eagan, MN; nine grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and one sister, Tillie Bruins of Lakewood, CA. He was preceded in death by his parents, grandson, Mike; three brothers and four sisters. Funeral services were held on Monday, February 23, 2009, 11:00 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Alexandria with Rev. Jeff Hansen officiating. Pallbearers were Scott Swanson, Jamie Mouw, Ryan Goslinga, Aaron Hurlbert, Mike Gralow, Andy Vano. Burial was at Carlos Prairie Cemetery in Carlos, MN.
