George Horst

OBITUARY George Nicholas Horst was born on December 8, 1921 in Millerville, MN, the son of Joseph and Anna (Pischke) Horst. He attended grade school and then enlisted into the United States Army during WWII serving overseas in Okinawa, Japan. After the service he moved to Bryan, Texas and married Cecila with whom his daughter Patricia was born. While living in Texas George worked for a shoe factory for many years. After his retirement George began to raise cattle and chickens as a hobby. George sold his livestock and moved to Alexandria, MN to be closer to his family in 1997. George had good sense of humor and enjoyed cookouts and barbequing with his famous ?Mop Sauce?. He liked to go to auctions and also played the role of Santa Claus for his family and friends during Christmas. George was a good card player and he liked to play dominos. He will be missed by those who knew and loved him. George N. Horst died on Sunday, March 15, 2009 at Knute Nelson in Alexandria at the age of 87 years. He is survived by his daughter Patricia of Texas and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, sisters Augusta Daas; Eleanor Hagedorn; Ann Lund; and a brother Conrad Horst. A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Friday, March 20, 2009 at Our Lady of Seven Dolors Catholic Church in Millerville, MN with the Reverend Leroy Scheierl officiating. Kim Byrne provided music for the service. Interment was in the church cemetery. Casket Bearers were George?s great nephews, Josh Essler, Chad Essler, Joseph Wagner, Brian Wagner, Eric Wagner, Aaron Lund, Richard Zunker Jr., and Michael Zunker. Military Rites were preformed by the Millerville VFW Post # 527. Arrangements are with the Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria.
