George Moebeck

December 24, 1921 — April 13, 2008

George Toby L. Moebeck was born December 24, 1921 in Ulen, MN, the son of George and Carrie (Fevig) Moebeck. He was raised and schooled in Ulen. During World War II George served in the US Army for four years. During his service he was united in marriage to Arlene Bordalen on October 7, 1943 in Lewes, DE. After his discharge George returned to Ulen. George began working as a typesetter in Hawley, MN. He later worked as a typesetter and graphic artist for the Detroit Lakes Record and Tribune. George?s interest in printing led him to Canby, MN where he attended Vocational school in Marshall and began teaching printing techniques and graphic arts at the Canby Vo-Tech. George taught in Canby from 1968 to 1993. After retiring George and Arlene moved to Alexandria, MN. He was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church, VFW Post 936, the Lakes Art Association in Battle Lake, and the Calvary Men?s Dart Club. George also served on his condominium board for several years and he and Arlene have served the Elder Network for about ten years. He was a longtime member of the Sons of Norway. George was a craftsperson; there wasn?t any craftwork that he wasn?t willing to try his hand at. He was a very talented artist. George enjoyed doing woodworking, woodcarving, and rosemaling. He loved creating art. George also enjoyed music and loved to sing. George was a very humble person and always looked to support the underdog or less fortunate in the community. Family and faith were very important to George; the presence of his wife and three children surrounded him as he died, Sunday, April 13, 2008 at the age of eighty-six years. His two brothers, Erwin and Lindy Moebeck, precede George in death. He is survived by his wife of sixty-four years, Arlene Moebeck of Alexandria; two daughters, Carolyn and husband, Norm Lichtsinn, of Moorhead, MN and Valerie and husband, William Yancey, of St. Louis, MO; one son, Mark and wife, Judy Moebeck, of St. Louis; six grandchildren, Michael (Lynn) Larson, Jeffrey (Debbie) Larson, James (Tala) Yancey, Joshua (Heather) Yancey, Jean (Rob) Lopez-Yancey and Isaac (Abby) Yancey; two step-grandchildren, Ron Lichtsinn and Carol Henry; eight great grandchildren, Drew Larson, Samantha Larson, Zachary Larson, Grace Yancey, Patrick Yancey, Joseph Yancey, Isley Lopez-Yancey and Eva Lopez-Yancey; and several nieces and nephews. A funeral service was held Wednesday, April 16, 2008 at Calvary Lutheran Church in Alexandria. Rev. Mark Astrup officiated. Judy Moebeck and Sandy Buckner provided music. Interment will be in Ulen, MN at a later date. Casket bearers include Michael Larson, Jeffrey Larson, James Yancey, Joshua Yancey, Jean Lopez-Yancey and Isaac Yancey and Drew Larson. Honorary casket bearers include all of The Calvary Men?s Dart Club members. American Legion Post 87 accorded military honors. Arrangements were with the Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria.
