Gerald Bast

Gerald Henry Bast was born April 14, 1952 in Parkers Prairie, MN, the son of Robert and Cora (Fuhrman) Bast. He attended school at Parkers Prairie where he graduated from high school. Jerry began working for Astro Construction and later was a self-employed carpenter. He also worked for a time at Western Lumber as an estimator. In April 1975 Jerry was united in marriage to Linda Gilbertson. They were blessed with two children, Erik and Jessica. In 1994 Jerry moved to Texas where he worked for the next seven years. In 2001 he returned to Parkers Prairie and began construction work there. Jerry suffered a disabling back injury and was no longer able to work. In his earlier years Jerry belonged to a motorcycle club in Parkers Prairie. He loved riding his Harley. He also enjoyed fixing up old cars. Jerry was an artist and he created many custom painted gas tanks for motorcycles. Jerry also enjoyed drawing and oil painting. When he was able he loved to go hunting and fishing. Jerry spent time with his friends playing all kinds of card games. Jerry also enjoyed country and rock music. Spending time with his children was important to him. On Wednesday, March 16, 2011 Jerry died at the age of fifty-eight years. He is survived by his two children, Erik Bast of Alexandria and Jessica Gilbertson and her fianc�, Mike Moe, of Lakeville, MN; his mother, Cora Bast of Miltona, MN; one grandchild, Aubrey Krohnfeldt; two brothers, Robert Bast and wife, Valerie, of Brooten, MN and Dale Bast and wife, MaryLee, of Iron River, WI; and two sisters, Linda Allebach and husband, Rodney, of Menagha, MN and Becky Hanson and husband, Bob, of Garfield, MN. A funeral service was held Monday, March 21, 2011 at Rose City Evangelical Free Church in Rose City. Reverend Larry Pearson officiated. Interment followed in Mount Calvary Cemetery. Arrangements were with the Anderson Funeral Home.
