Gerald “Jerry” Sether of Alexandria passed away on February 22, 2018.
Jerry was born on March 8, 1942 to Edwin and Minnie (Hansen) Sether. He was raised in Underwood, MN and graduated from Underwood High School in 1960. Jerry was very active in sports and made all conference in both football and basketball. In 1961, he was in the first class at Fergus Falls Community College and was also on the first “Spartan” basketball team.
Jerry enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1961 and served four years and then two years in the active reserves. He was a very proud Marine and often said “Once a Marine, Always a Marine”.
In 1967, Jerry was united in marriage to Mary Ellen (Tuney) Brennan in Santa Ana, CA. He graduated from Cypress College in California in 1969 with an Associate Degree in Business Administration and worked 30+ years in banking.
Jerry had various hobbies including deer hunting, watching his beloved Vikings play football, and working on his 55 Chevy. Jerry was an active member of Bethesda Lutheran Church for over 30 years, was a member of the Honor Guard/Color Guard for the American Legion and VFW and was a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans in Fergus Falls, MN. Jerry had a great sense of humor and maintained his wit to the very end.
He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant son, his son Brian, and his sisters Harriet, Gertrude, and Edna (Sissy).
Jerry is survived by his wife of 50 years, Mary (Tuney), his son Stephen (Jenny) Sether of Pine River, MN and his daughter Stephanie (Mike) DeRuyck of Afton, MN, as well as two grandsons, Oliver DeRuyck and Finn Sether, his sister Marge Erickson of Dora, MN and brother Orville (Marianne) Sether of St. Paul, plus several special nieces and nephews.
Memorial service will be held on Friday, March 2, 2018, 1:00 PM at the Anderson Funeral Home with visitation one hour prior. Burial will be at Kinkead Cemetery.
