Geraldine “Geri” Frances (Hammer) Tvrdik
Geraldine “Geri” was born on August 10, 1928 at her grandparents farm in Hudson Township in Douglas County. The daughter of Joseph and Mathilda (Loeffler) Hammer. Geri had 4 brothers and 2 sisters. She was baptized, confirmed and married at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alexandria.
Geri was married on November 24, 1947 to David Tvrdik, the son of Frank and Barbara (Kalina) Tvrdik. David died November 27, 1987.
Geri attended school through the 9th grade, the first 3 years at country schools. She then worked as a waitress and grocery clerk before becoming a stay at home Mom, which she loved. She also enjoyed cooking, baking, gardening and sewing for her kids when they were young. Later in life, she became an avid reader. Geri was a member of St. Mary’s Christian Mothers and a lifetime member of the VFW Auxiliary.
Geri and David had 8 children. Barbara (Allen) Gerdes, Daryl (Brenda) Tvrdik, Dennis Tvrdik, Joyce Tvrdik (died December 24, 1960), Jean (Richard) Nelson, Linda (Peter) Rhodes, Gary (Cindy) Tvrdik and Michael (Cary) Tvrdik. Geri had 14 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and 9 great great grandchildren. She is survived by her 2 sisters, Mary (Ed) Martin, Theresa (Henry) Svec and sister-in-law Lorraine Hammer, many nieces and nephews.
Geri is preceded in death by her husband David, daughter Joyce, her parents and 4 brothers (Frank, Jim, Merlin & Edgar); 2 sons-in-law and a daughter-in-law.
Pallbearers are her grandsons: Chad Gerdes, Ryan Gerdes, David Tvrdik, Denver Tvrdik, Zachary Tvrdik and Jeremiah Tvrdik. Honorary pallbearers are her grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Monday, May 6, 2024, 4:00 - 7:00 PM at the Anderson Funeral Home with a Parish Prayer Service at 3:30 PM. Visitation will continue on Tuesday, May 7th, 2024 from 10:00 - 11:00 AM with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Burial will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to St. Jude's Childrens Hospital or Knute Nelson Hospice.Monday, May 6, 2024
