Gilbert Poepping

Gilbert Gerhard Poepping was born on October 17, 1935 in Spring Hill Township, Stearns County, Minnesota to Gerhard and Zitta (Thull) Poepping. As a teenager, Gilbert helped on his parents' farm and with other local farmers.
Gilbert was united in marriage to Roselene (Rosie) Speldrich at St. Francis de Sales Church in Belgrade on August 26, 1959. To this union the couple was blessed with 4 sons and 2 daughters. The couple resided in the Greenwald Area for 5 years. Then moved to Grey Eagle and rented a farm for 2 years. In 1966, they purchased their farm by West Union where they farmed until 1994. After selling the farm, they moved to Alexandria. Gilbert was employed by Service Master of Alexandria until 2016.
Gilbert was an avid Minnesota Twins and Vikings fan. He enjoyed watching Wheel of Fortune and Family Feud, playing cards, especially Solo, and going to garage sales and was a regular on the KXRA swap shop.
Gilbert died on Saturday, May 20, 2017 at the St. Cloud Hospital at the age of 81. He is survived by his wife, Rosie of Alexandria; 4 sons, Dennis (Patty Jordan) of Glenwood, Dale (Lisa) of Sauk Centre, Jeff (Jolene) of Sauk Centre, and Jim (Kristine) of Alexandria; 2 daughters, Lori (Kevin Pearson) Poepping of Alexandria and Lisa (Joel) Arceneau of Miltona; grandchildren, Corey (Tara) Poepping. Nicole (Peter) Dusek, Casey (Amy) Poepping, Charnell (Matt Laven) Poepping, Karlee Poepping, Damon (Tia Johnson) Poepping, Janessa Poepping, Shaina Poepping, Jordan Poepping, Sara Poepping, Melany Arceneau, Kamryn Arceneau, Trever Arceneau, and Bennet Arceneau; 9 great-grandchildren; twin brother, Wilbert (Donna Mae) of Avon and brother, Ronald (Bernice) of Cold Spring; sisters, Carol (Dennis) Deters of Elrosa and Alyce (Tom) Illies of Andover, MN; one brother-in-law, John (Vera Lou) Klaphake of Albany; and many nieces and nephews. Gilbert is preceded in death by his parents, Gerhard and Zitta; brothers, Eugene and Alverne; sisters, Marilyn Wolbeck and Rosie Klaphake; brother-in-law, Joe Wolbeck, and sisters-in-law, Alice and Arleen.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 2:30 PM on Wednesday, May 24, 2017, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Alexandria. Visitation will be held from 4-8 PM with Parish Prayers at 7:30 on Tuesday, May 23, 2017, at the Anderson Funeral Home and for one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday.
