Gilbert Ziesemer

March 18, 1925 — March 28, 2008

Gilbert Ziesemer was born March 18, 1925 in Parkers Prairie, Minnesota the son of Carl and Augusta (Guderjahn) Ziesemer. He was baptized and confirmed at St.Paul?s Lutheran Church of West Miltona. He also attended country school in the rural Parkers Prairie area. On December 11, 1947 Gilbert was united in marriage to Dorothy LouAnn Dickoff. The couple then made their home in rural Parkers Prairie, MN. After he left the farm, the couple spent some time in Montana, where Gilbert was employed on a ranch. Returning to Minnesota he was employed by the Ziesemer Construction firm in Parkers Prairie. In 1969 the couple purchased a Hardware Store in Brooten, MN and later in Waseca, MN. After moving to Minneapolis, he worked and managed a department at a home building center. After retiring he moved to Alexandria in 1989. He loved his family, enjoyed wood working, and making things for them. He also liked outdoor activities, including yard work, gardening, fishing and his computer. Gilbert entered the Knute Nelson Memorial Home in March of 2008, where he died on March 28, 2008. Gilbert is survived by his children, Diane (David) Agnew, Gary (Corrine) Ziesemer, Grandchildren, Ryan (Jennifer) Agnew, Jason Agnew, Mark (Sarah) Ziesemer, Chad Ziesemer, and Katie Ziesemer and numerous nephews and nieces. Gilbert was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Robert, Edwin, Reno, Harold, and sisters, Esther Zarbok, Elda Riedel, Hilma Karger, and Myrna Lyson. A funeral service was held on Monday, March 31, 2008 at the Zion Lutheran Lutheran Church in Alexandria, MN with the Rev. Terry Finnern and Rev. David Hinz officiating. Music was provided by David Agnew as soloist, and Mertice Brueske as organist. Pallbearers were Ryan Agnew, Jason Agnew, Mark Ziesemer, Arlin Karger, Kenneth Rafteseth, Dean Lyson, and Chad Ziesemer. Arrangements are with the Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria.
