OBITUARY Gladys Mae Rodvold, age 90, of Alexandria, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on July 7, 2011 at the Douglas County Hospital in Alexandria. Gladys was born on September 27, 1920, in Minneapolis, MN. She was then adopted by her loving parents James and Iva(Brackman) West. She was raised on a farm between Osakis and Eagle Bend where she attended a country school. She also participated in 4H, where she won a blue ribbon for her bread at the state fair. She later won a Grand Champion ribbon for her plants at the Douglas County Fair. Gladys married Leland Seth on August 8, 1942. To this union three children were born, Carol, Roy, and Gary. They made their home in the Eagle Bend area. In 1947 they moved to Alexandria. On February 7, 1958, she was married to Elmer Rodvold. To this union was born a daughter, Dawn. They made their home in Alexandria. Gladys worked at Shogren?s Nursing Home in Alexandria for many years and then at the St. Luke?s Nursing Home until she retired at the age of 72 years old. Gladys liked to entertain relatives and friends with her great cooking. She also enjoyed her birthday club, of which Lavonne Peterson is the last surviving member. She enjoyed traveling around the country. She was an outgoing woman who liked to garden, be outside, and visit with just about anyone. She liked watching classic movies and TV shows like the Andy Griffith Show. She loved her pet dogs Peanuts and Blackie and missed them very much. Gladys was a feisty women who worked hard all of her life. She accepted her Lord and Savior about 3 years ago in what she would call a Spiritual Awaking. Gladys would watch ?In Touch? every Sunday morning on TV. Gladys was living at the Winona Shores apartments at the time of her death. Gladys is survived by her son Gary (Betty) Seth of Alexandria; daughters Carol (Bruce) Sweet of Stockton, CA; Dawn (Bill) Erickson of Alexandria; daughter-in-law Carol Seth of Oak Harbor, WA; sister-in-law Bernice West of Fall City, WA; ten grandchildren and many great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; son Roy Seth; husbands Elmer Rodvold and Leland Seth; brothers Ralph, Oral, Arthur, and Roger West. A funeral service was held on Saturday, July 16, 2011 at 10:30 AM at Grace Church in Alexandria with the Reverend Craig Dahl officiating. Interment was in the Evergreen Cemetery in Alexandria. Casket Bearers were Gary Seth, Jake Seth, Glen West, Jon Collado, Dennis Williams and Bill Erickson. Arrangements are with the Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria.
