Gladys L. Skramstad Gladys L. Skramstad was born in Lake Reno Township, Pope County, Minnesota, on October 29, 1930, the daughter of Joseph and Christine (Benesh) Zavadil. On September 5, 1950, Gladys was united in marriage to Gordon Skramstad. The couple lived and raised their family in Alexandria. During this time, Gladys kept busy at home with their children. She enjoyed many hobbies including gardening, baking, canning, crocheting, embroidering, and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Gordon died in 1992 and shortly thereafter Gladys was employed by the Douglas County Hospital until her retirement in 2007. On November 8, 2011, after a short battle with cancer, Gladys died at the age of 81 surrounded by her children. Gladys is survived by her children Roger (Christine) Skramstad of Alexandria, Rodney (Judy) Skramstad of Alexandria, Sandy (Steve) Gabrielson of Fargo, and Denise (Scott) Knowles of Hermantown. Also surviving are grandchildren Josie Birch, Jennifer Klassen, Jessie Glawe, Jacki Schlittenhardt, Angie Orpen, Lindsay Wilson, Scott Gabrielson, Tom Knowles, Paul Knowles, and Jake Knowles; twin sister Dorothy Bartos and sisters Betty Skramstad and Janice Scheflo. Gladys was preceded in death by her parents, husband, grandson Michael Gabrielson, and daughter-in-law Gayle Skramstad. Mass of Christian Burial was held on Saturday, November 12, 2011, at the St. Mary?s Catholic Church in Alexandria with Rev. Steve Binsfeld officiating. Interment was in the St. Mary?s Cemetery with her grandchildren serving as pallbearers. Arrangements are with the Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria
