Gladys Irene Swenson, 94, passed away at the Monticello Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Iowa on January 14, 2016. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, January 22 at Calvary Lutheran Church in Alexandria, Minnesota. Burial will take place at Norunga Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 PM to 7 PM on Thursday January 21 at Anderson’s Funeral Home in Alexandria.
Gladys was born April 19, 1921 in Pope County to Josie and Theodore Rosby. Gladys graduated from Glenwood High School in 1940. She married Melvin Swenson on June 9, 1951 in Nora Church near Kensington, Minnesota. They farmed near Lowry until 1972 when they moved to Alexandria and joined Calvary Lutheran Church. Gladys lived in Alexandria until 2014 when she moved to Iowa to be near family.
Surviving family members include her daughters and son-in-law, Fern Swenson, Bismarck, ND and Irene and Richard Kracht, Monticello, Iowa; two grandchildren Justin Kracht (Alba) and Mindy LeGrand (Bill); five great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews along with other extended family. Gladys was preceded in her death by her husband Melvin, parents Josie and Theodore Rosby, brother Clarence Rosby, and sister Doris Haguestuen.
Gladys very much loved her family. She especially enjoyed seeing her grandchildren and great grandchildren whenever she could and always with a big hug and smile. The family enjoyed spending holidays together.
