Glenn Victor Holtz was born on October 24, 1929 in Graceville, MN, the son of Fredrick and Clara (Erickson) Holtz. He was baptized and confirmed at Siloah Lutheran Church. Glenn attended country school through the eighth grade and continued his schooling at the School of Agriculture in Morris, MN. Following school Glenn joined his father and brother, Leo; farming the home farm. In 1951 Glenn joined the United States Army. He was trained as a radio repairman. He served in the infantry during the Korean War. Following his two years of service Glenn returned from Korea. He was discharged and came home to Minnesota. On November 19, 1955 Glenn was united in marriage to Carol Jensen at Nassau, MN. The couple was blessed with three children, Bryan, Glenda and John. The made their home on a farm in Parnell Township where Glenn raised grain and hogs for the next thirty-four years. Glenn retired from farming in 1989, He and Carol moved into Wheaton where they built a new home. In 2010 Glenn moved to Alexandria, MN to be closer to his family. Glenn was active in the VFW and American Legion. He was a member of the National Rifle Association and participated in various farming organizations. Glenn was a life long member of Siloah Lutheran Church. Glenn enjoyed all types of hunting; he hunted deer, ducks, pheasants and bear. He fished in the summer and winter. Glenn enjoyed dancing with Carol. They liked to square dance and waltz. Glenn and Carol also traveled extensively; they travel through all fifty states, Mexico and Europe. Friends were important to Glenn. He enjoyed spending time with his coffee buddies. Most important was the time he spent with his family, his children and his grandchildren. On Thursday, December 5, 2013 Glenn died at the age of eighty-four years. His wife, Carol; his brother, Leo Holtz; and one granddaughter, Megan Johanson, preceded him in death. Glenn is survived by his children, Bryan Holtz and wife, Julie, of Watford City, ND, Glenda Johanson and husband, Brad, of Alexandria and John Holtz and wife, Lisa, of Appleton, MN; grandchildren, Heather Johanson, Sarah Young, Clarissa Holtz, Kaylee Holtz and Molly Holtz; Step-grandchildren, Ronald Glover and Timothy Glover; great grandchildren, Harper Young and Ferris Young; and great step-grandchildren Wyatt Glover, Marli Glover, Emma Glover and Ayda Glover. A funeral service will be held 11 AM Monday, December 9, 2013 at Siloah Lutheran Church. Reverend John Ragan will officiate. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Casket bearers include Timothy Glover, Brady Young, Donny Hoschette, Mark Findlay, Scott Jensen and Jeff Jensen. Arrangements are with the Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria.
