Glenn Robert Springer was born on December 19, 1918, in Ponsford, Minnesota, the son of Charles Springer and Gladys (Stowell) Springer. He attended school in Eagle Bend, MN through the 8th grade. On October 30, 1942, Glenn was united in marriage to Jean Hardy in Phoenix, AZ. At the end of World War II, followings Glenn?s discharge from the Army the couple made their home in Carlos, MN where they began raising their family of eight children. On March 6, 1942, Glenn entered the military. During his service he was active in battles and campaigns in Tunisia, Sicily, Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, and Central Europe. He was a member of the 65th Armored Field Artillery Battalion. All members were awarded the Bronze Service Arrowhead for participation in the assault which secured the initial Normandy Beachheads on June 6, 1944 (His assigned Beachhead was Utah Beach). Glenn was very proud of his service to his country and was Honorably Discharged on September 30, 1945. He taught his children to respect their country, veterans and members of the Armed Services. Glenn enjoyed out door activities, woodworking, and made furniture for his home. In his later years he crafted many birdhouses and wishing wells. Mr. Springer died on Monday, December 28, 2009. He is survived by his children: Glenda (Dan) Schimmelphennig of Apache Junction, AZ, Gloria (Fred) Mastellar of Apache Junction, AZ, Roger & Coy of Alexandria, Joyce (Doug) Muyres of Carlos, Bruce (Elaine) of Parkers Prairie, Janet (Glen) Houle of Ely, MN, Wilbur of Apache Junction, AZ, Glenn (Mary) of Parkers Prairie; 21 grandchildren, several great grandchildren, one great great grandchild; two brothers: Lloyd of Alexandria, Francis of Nevada. He was preceded in death by his wife, grandchild, Destiny; seven brothers and sisters. Funeral services were held on Thursday, December 31, 2009, 1:00 PM at the Anderson Funeral Home. Pallbearers were Rich Mastellar, Jay Schimmelpfennig, Michael Diedrich, Greg Springer, Eric Houle, Brian Schimmelpfennig, Zach Springer, Cory Springer, Riley Springer, Cody Springer. Burial was at Carlos Prairie Cemetery in Carlos.
