Glenn Evan White, 65, passed away surrounded by family at his home in Alexandria, MN on Thursday, April 30. He was diagnosed with late stage colon cancer after suffering a stroke on April 19, 2020.
Glenn was born in Pittsburgh, PA on September 5, 1954. When Glenn was 10 years old, his family relocated to Bloomington, MN. After graduating from Bloomington Lincoln High School, he attended Bethany Lutheran College in Mankato, MN where he played soccer and met the love of his life, Heidi Humburg. Glenn later transferred to Concordia College in St. Paul, MN where he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Education. Glenn and Heidi married on December 27, 1975 in La Crescent, MN. Career opportunities led them to Alexandria where Glenn’s first job was teaching 8th grade at Zion Lutheran School. He would later work in real estate before spending most of his career in business management.
Glenn loved the natural beauty of the Alexandria area. He purchased an oversized lot for his home and created a ball field in the back yard for his kids. He planted trees, gardens and set up a peaceful environment for birds to enjoy in his yard.
Glenn’s leadership was steady, diplomatic and calm. He loved soccer and focused his gifts through service as a founding board member of the Alexandria Area Soccer Association (AASA). Glenn’s consistent involvement and the energy of his fellow board members, combined with a swelling movement in the community, brought soccer to Alexandria families beginning in 1996. Several greater Minnesota communities modeled development of their soccer programs after the work pioneered in Alexandria. Glenn remained a fixture in Alexandria Soccer for over a decade with service across a variety of roles including: AASA Board Member (6 years), AASA President (several years), JV Boys Soccer Coach (3 years), Varsity Boys Soccer Coach (2 years), MYSA Soccer Coach (10 years), Certified Soccer Referee (10 years).
Glenn is survived by his wife Heidi of 44 years, along with his sons Jacob (Heather) White, Kristopher (Jessica) White, daughters Lesa White and Saleigh (David) Rivas, grandchildren Clara, Evan, Kate, Harvey, Penelope, Jordyn, Wilfred, his brother Gregg (Sandy) White, his sister Christine White and many other loving nieces, nephews and relatives. Glenn was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, coach, mentor and friend to everyone. He was preceded in death by his parents Jim and Caryl White.
