Gloria Marlene Brock
March 24, 1931 — August 24, 2024
Gloria Marlene Bergland Brock was born in Thief River Falls, Minnesota, on March 24, 1931, to Gunsten Soren Bergland and Alice Froseth Bergland. She enjoyed a happy childhood among friends and her many second-generation Norwegian relatives who had settled in the area. After high school she moved to Minneapolis, where she studied fashion merchandizing at the Minnesota School of Business and worked at Young Quinlan, a high-end department store. Her interest in clothing, fashion, and design remained with her for life. In 1950 she married Dale Borup Brock, with whom she had four children: Gregory Dale, Debbi Jean, Kathy Jo, and Mark Daniel. She passed away on August 24, 2024, at Knute Nelson Care Center in Alexandria, at the age of 93.
Alexandria was Gloria’s home for most of her adult life. She worked in local banks, a women’s clothing store, and for 22 years at Knute Nelson Care Center as a Certified Nursing Assistant. The twin passions of her life, though, were her children and her faith. She always encouraged her children to pursue their interests, whatever they might be, and she had the genius of helping them believe they could achieve their dreams. Her love and deep care extended to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren; she prayed for them continuously and treasured her time with them.
Gloria’s generous spirit was a help and a gift to those who knew her. She freely shared her faith and made a habit of driving friends to church and Bible study. Gloria was also an independent thinker who knew her own mind and never lost interest in learning new things, sharing her ideas, and staying abreast of politics and current affairs. She loved reading – not only the Bible, which she studied daily, but also fiction and literature, which enriched her life and broadened her experience.
Gloria is survived by her four children: Greg Brock of Denver, CO; Debbi (Dean) Anderson of Alexandria; Kathy (Lin) Enger of Moorhead, MN; and Mark Brock of Sheboygan, WI. Eight grandchildren: Sarah Bryan; Elise (Joe) Ruegsegger; Jordan (JoLynda) Anderson; Taite (Lindsey) Anderson; Titus Kennedy; Hope (Jesse) Larson; Nick Enger; and Cole Brock. Thirteen great-grandchildren: Autumn and Cameron Bryan; Keeley, Avery, Maya, and Joey Ruegsegger; Jayna and Wesley Anderson; Elly, Silas, and Micah Anderson; Sylvia and Jonas Larson.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Gunsten and Alice, and her sister, Jean.
