Gloria Myers

Gloria Esther Rahn was born May 23, 1939 in Eagan Township, MN, the daughter of Arthur and Clara (Englert) Rahn. She was raised in Eagan and attended school in Rosemount, MN where she graduated from high school. She worked for a time as a bookkeeper at McKees store in the Twin Cities.

On January 6, 1962 Gloria was united in marriage to Donald Myers at Concordia Lutheran Church in South St. Paul, MN. The couple was blessed with one son, James. They built a home in Rosemount where they lived until they moved north. Donald and Gloria bought the Smith Lake Resort near Alexandria. They operated the resort until 1975. In 1977 they moved to their home on Maple Lake near Forada, MN.

Gloria was a grounded in the Lutheran faith. She participated in Lutheran Women's Missionary League. She also enjoyed attending bible study groups.

Gloria was a fan of the Minnesota Vikings. She enjoyed spending time going for walks and feeding the birds. She was fascinated by any bird as long as it was not a chicken. Gloria also bowled in women's league bowling. She liked doing craftwork, especially with photographs and collected dolls and bells. Gloria also traveled with Donald in the winter; they spent time at South Padre Island and Cancun.

Gloria was a good cook and baker. She made fantastic carrot cake and Swedish meatballs. When Thanksgiving came she knew how to put on a feast and her turkey dressing was a favorite.

Gloria was a gardener and she liked to dazzle her neighbors and passersby with her beautiful flower gardens. Attending family reunions was always important to her. She enjoyed living on the lake and spending time with James and Mary on the deck at the end of the day.

On Sunday, January 15, 2017 Gloria died at the age of seventy-seven years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald; one brother and sister-in-law, Gordon & Carol Rahn; and two sisters and one brother-in-law, Joyce Rahn and Lorna & Devon Jackson. Gloria is survived by her son James Myers and wife, Mary, of Alexandria; grandchildren, Dan Myers and wife, Jaclyn, Jay Myers, Jessika Myers and Mat Myers; brother, Robert Rahn and wife, Donna of Macomb, MI; and sister, Eldoris Ohm and husband, Maynard, of the Twin Cities.

A funeral service will be held 11:30 AM Tuesday, January 24, 2017 at Zion Lutheran Church in Alexandria. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery in Alexandria.
