Glorian Helen Hein Brandenburg passed away on Sunday, May 14, 2017, in Alexandria, MN. Glorian was born on January 29, 1921, the daughter of Frederick and Hulda Hein, in Mayer, MN. She was confirmed in German on March 25, 1934 at Zion Lutheran Church in Mayer.
Glorian was united in marriage to Melvin Brandenburg on September 12, 1940 in Mayer where the couple made their home. They lived on his parents' farm until Bonita and Linnea were born. In the mid-1940's she was employed as a sewing teacher at Munsingwear in the Twin Cities. In 1948, the family moved to Alexandria, MN where Lauri was born. During this time Glorian worked at Olson's /Red Owl as Manager of the Dairy and Frozen Food Department.
Glorian's passion was sewing. She made several different outfits for her daughters and grandchildren. She had a wonderful talent and sewed everything from prom dresses for her granddaughters to winter coats. She would make slip covers for chairs and couches, dolls and stuffed animals. She also made quilts and crocheted afghans. As a couple Melvin and Glorian loved playing cards especially bridge and 500.
Upon the couples retirement they enjoyed going on trips and visiting their children and grandchildren. After Melvin's death, Glorian went to Germany with other family members and even got to practice her German.
In 1994, she moved to the Cedar Hills Condos and enjoyed living there for 17 years before going into an assisted living.
Glorian is survived by her daughters: Bonita Carlson (David), Linnea Erickson (Wayne), Lauri Milsow (Richard); six grandchildren: John Carlson (Robyn), Julie Benjaminson (Mark), David Carlson (Stephanie), Mark Carlson, Sarah Gravley (Erik), Sarah Guenther (Matthew); eight great grandchildren: Katherine Carlson, Martha Carlson, Tanner Carlson, Leah Carlson, Olivia Benjaminson, Piper Benjaminson, Gunnar Gravley, Birgitta Gravley.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin; her parents, and brother, Frederick Hein.
A Memorial service will be held on Thursday, May 25, 2017, 11:30 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in Alexandria with visitation one hour prior. Burial will be at Kinkead Cemetery. Arrangements are with the Anderson Funeral Home. www.andersonfuneral.net
