Gordon Larson

Gordon Larson, age 77, passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, January 10, 2008. Gordon was born on August 6, 1930, the son of Lewis and Louise (Sundberg) Larson. He grew up and attended school in Holmes City and Alexandria. Gordon joined the Navy in January of 1951 and served his country until November of 1954. He was united in marriage to Marlene Jones on March 9, 1953 and the couple lived in California until November of 1954 when they moved to Minneapolis. Gordon furthered his education at Dunwoody Institute and received his Degree as a Tool and Die Marker. After graduation he was employed by Timesavers Inc and worked for them for thirty-five years. In 1992, the Larsons returned to Holmes City area. Mr. Larson was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and president of the Rose Hill Trinity Cemetery Association. He loved the outdoors: camping, fishing and hunting. One of his great pleasures was living on Grill Lake where he had a large garden and woodworking shop. Gordon is survived by his wife of 54 years, Marlene; children: Vickie (Dan) Van Hammond of Arkdale, WI, Mike (Bernice) Larson of Brooklyn Center, MN, Bruce (Kim) Larson of Roseville, MN; seven grandchildren: Joe, Chrissy, David Van Hammond, Seth (Leah), Brady Schuster, Shya, Camii Larson; one brother, Lyle (Harriet) Larson; one sister, Eleanor (Robert) Johnson; many nieces, nephews and friends. Memorial services were held on Monday, January 14, 2008, 11:00 a.m. at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Holmes City with Rev. Denise Croskey officiating. Jan Myhr provided the music. Burial was at Rose Hill Cemetery in Holmes City. Honorary Pallbearers were his nephews: Terry Johnson, Steve Johnson, Greg Johnson, Randy Larson, Donald Larson, Charles Larson, Scott Johanson. Military Honors were by American Legion Post #87. Arrangements are with the Anderson Funeral Home.
