Gordon Julius Oberg was born on January 4, 1933 in Bismarck, North Dakota to Anton and Cora (Erickson) Oberg. He attended country school through the eighth grade. He enlisted into the U.S. Army. After the Army he started work at Hubbard Milling where he work for ? years as a truck driver and retired in 1999. Gordon was united in marriage to Marion Thompson in 1956. To this union they were blessed with 5 children. Marion died in 1989. On January 24, 1992 Gordon married Darlene Bundy in Alexandria. The couple made their home in Nelson. Gordon enjoyed antiquing and going to auctions. From these pastimes he started the Nelson Bargain Shop. He also loved to take drives and play pool. Gordon died on Sunday, June 05, 2011 at the Douglas County Hospital in Alexandria at the age of 78. He is survived by his wife, Darlene of Nelson; three sons, Wayne (Vicki) Oberg of Alexandria, Bruce Oberg of Alexandria, and Tracy Oberg of Nelson; two daughters, Virginia (Clem) Klimek of Alexandria and Julie (Michael) Haabala of Farwell; grandchildren, Brandy, Lance, Emily, Amber, Abby, Adam, Joshua, Dorothy, Jacob, Austin, Zachary, Erick, Emily; several great-grandchildren, brother, Harry (Arlene) Oberg of Alexandria; sister, Martha Hood of Morris; and many nieces and nephews. Gordon is preceded in death by his parents, Anton and Cora; first wife, Marion; and brother-in-law, Warren Hood. A funeral service was held on Wednesday, June 8, 2011 at the Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria with Reverend Barbara Lund Thompson officiating. Music was provided by pianist, Kim Byrne and soloists, Jason Merrick , Dan Wilkens and Gary Gilsen. Interment was in the Nelson Cemetery. Casket bearers were Paul DeRoe, Randy Abers, Terry Saltes, Larry Rising, Clayton Erickson, Daniel Wilkens. Honorary casket bearer was Scotty Oberg, Military Honors were provided by Minnesota National Guard Honors, American Legion Post #87 and VFW Post #936. Arrangements are with the Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria.
