Gordon Charles Schmidt, the son of Albert and Clara (Kleinschmidt) Schmidt, was born in Elrosa, MN on August 26, 1931. Gordon attended grade school and then began working with his father in the carpentry business. Together they traveled around Minnesota working for Lutheran Brotherhood remodeling and building homes. In 1950 Gordon enlisted into the United States Army. He served overseas on the front lines during the Korean War. After his service duty, Gordon returned home and continued to work with his father.
On a blind date in 1954, Gordon met the love of his life, Pauline Dolly Lucas. They were united in marriage on September 17, 1955 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Browerville, MN. Together they raised three sons, Bruce, Scott, and Jeff and lived in Spring Lake Park, MN for a number of years. He continued to remodel and build homes until he had an opportunity to purchase a lumber yard in Hanley Falls, MN. After a few years, Gordon sold the lumber yard and purchased a Liquor Store in Lucan, MN and opened Schmidt’s Bar and Supper Club for about 10 years. He then moved to Villard, MN and purchased the Office Bar and Grill before managing the Glenwood Off Sale Liquor Store for 9 years. Gordon retired in 1993.
Gordon worked very hard all of his life, but also liked to have a good time with his family and friends. He liked being outdoors and hunting. Gordon spent many hours on the lake with Pauline and his boys fishing and enjoying nature. For many years, Gordon would teach his boys how to build homes and work in the construction business. He made toys, end tables and crosses with all different types of wood. He always took pride in the work he did and taught his boys to always be proud of the things they did. Gordon will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
