Grace Adelle Ljung, age 93, passed away peacefully on April 16, 2021, with her children at her side.
Grace was born to John and Ruth (Erickson) Rosander on a wintry January day in 1928. She joined older brother, Leland, and grew up near Dassel, MN. After graduating from Dassel High School and attending Minnesota School of Business, she worked at General Mills and lived in Minneapolis. She met Warren Ljung through a mutual acquaintance, they soon married and later moved to Alexandria to raise their growing family on a small dairy farm on the shores of Lake Geneva.
She was infinitely patient, kind, gentle, and generous -- all the best qualities of a wife, mother, and caregiver. She was a wonderful cook and baker. In her leisure time, Grace was an avid solver of crossword puzzles and other word games. She was a challenging opponent in Scrabble, card games, and board games and occasionally let others win to keep them from getting discouraged. Grace was a long-time member of First Baptist Church in Alexandria. She spent time everyday reading God's word and praying for family and friends. Grace fully lived up to her name in every way.
Grace is survived by children: Ruth (Mike) Turner, Carol (Stewart) Swanson, Bryan (Theresa) Ljung, John, and Paul (Drew Beninati); eight grandchildren: Jonelle (Tim) Dickmeyer, Ryan (Cori) Turner, Melissa (Matthew) Swenson, William (Kate) Swanson, James (Courtney) Swanson, Matthew and Julie Ljung, and David (Kara) Ljung; nine great-grandchildren: Michael and Colin Dickmeyer; Declan, Griffin, and Sullivan Turner; Wyatt and Abigail Swenson; Ethan and Jace Ljung; and sister-in-law: Phyllis Rosander. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother, and great-granddaughter: Elsie Swanson.
A celebration of life service will be held on Tuesday, April 20, 2021, 2:00 p.m. at Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria, with visitation one-hour prior. CDC guidelines of social distancing and wearing of masks will be observed. For those unable to attend, the service will be live-streamed and recorded for family and friends to view from Grace’s obituary page on the Anderson Funeral Home website at 2 PM on Tuesday. Burial will be at Geneva Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to the family are preferred. Proceeds will be given to Early Childhood Family Education, for which Grace volunteered many years.
